Trail Running Calendar Scotland 2026-2027

With 191 trail races in Scotland lined up for the 2026-2027 season, there's a race for every level of runner. In Glasgow, take on the challenge of the city's lush parks, where the trails are as welcoming as the locals. Transition to the cobbled streets and ancient edifices of Edinburgh, where running is not just exercise but a communion with history, as you breeze past the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, the city's very own mountain.

Heading northeast, Aberdeen's coastal trails offer a refreshing run with the North Sea as your companion, or venture into Dundee, where the revitalized waterfront serves as a picturesque starting line for a running experience filled with scenic views and a fresh, maritime air.

Just outside the hustle and bustle, Paisley presents a runner’s paradise with its undulating hills, a test of endurance. Lastly, East Kilbride calls to nature lovers with its tranquil woodland trails, where the peace and quiet of the forest canopy creates an idyllic backdrop for both the casual jogger and the competitive sprinter.

Trail runs at Culzean Castle on 7 March 2027 offer 5km, 10km and half marathon options across a 642 acre estate. Live chip timing is provided, canicross is allowed and finishers receive a medal, merchandise and refreshments.

The Newburgh Beach Bash 10K will take place in Newburgh on Saturday 20 March 2027. You can run 10 kilometers.

The Race Dunvegan will take place in Dunvegan from Saturday 20 March 2027 to Monday 22 March 2027. You can run between 5 and 10 kilometers.

April 2027

A two day, 60 mile off road ultramarathon on the Isle of Arran covering coastal paths, forests and mountains including Goatfell and the Bog of Doom. The route is fully waymarked and supported with pit stops and professional medical cover.

At Beecraigs Country Park on 24 April 2027 runners repeat a 4.167 mile loop every hour until one completes a solo lap and becomes Last One Standing. Entry includes timing, camping access, parking for one vehicle and a finisher medal.

A scored 10 km route from Monachyle Mhor Hotel into Monachyle Glen, with trail sections, three water stops, chip timing and a separate 1 km fun run for younger runners.

A 125 km coastal mountain ultra on the remote Knoydart Peninsula in Scotland, staged over three days with tent accommodation. The event includes GPS tracking, manned checkpoints, transfers and a finishers medal.

May 2027

A 90K UTMB Index 100K ultra along the historic Pilgrim Way from North Queensferry to St Andrews Cathedral. The fully marked route crosses towns such as Dunfermline and Ceres, includes 1,200 m of ascent and GPS tracking.

A two-day trail event around Loch Ness with seven race distances from 16 km to 100 miles, fully marked courses, regular aid stations and medical support. Camping and tracking are included for the longer races.

Two coastal trail races along the Moray coastline offering a 50 mile ultra and a 50 km route that pass Findhorn, Lossiemouth, Spey Bay and finish in Cullen, with pre-race buses from Cullen to the start points.

A trail running event on Scotland's Kintyre Way offering a shorter 35 mile ultra and rotating section routes with relay options, varied coastal and woodland terrain, waymarking, finish facilities and GPS timing with proceeds supporting rout..

Time-limited ultramarathon on the Formartine and Buchan railway between Maud and Auchnagatt with 12 hour and 6 hour options. Competitors aim to cover as much distance as possible and must reach at least 26.3 miles for a medal.

A 5 km obstacle event at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy, on 9 May 2027. The grass-start course loops through parkland with steep hills and obstacles; participants must be 13 or older and a minimum fundraising target applies.

A mud and obstacle run in Aberdeen on 16 May 2027 offering 5 km and 10 km options for adults and supervised teenagers. Entries include a tech T-shirt and finisher's medal, with free parking and event photos.

A continuous 214 mile route along the Cape Wrath Trail from Cape Wrath lighthouse to Glenfinnan viaduct. The event starts at Keodale with a ferry crossing and includes five aid stations en route.

A 28 km fell race on the Isle of Jura with seven summits and 2,370 m of ascent. Limited to 250 places, the course tests hillcraft and endurance and is described as one of the tougher races at this distance.

June 2027

A 104 mile trail ultramarathon along the Southern Upland Way with 4611 m of ascent, live GPS tracking and UTMB and ITRA points. The field is limited to 250 places and strict mandatory kit, checkpoint and pacer rules apply.

A trail running event at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl on 5 June 2027 with multiple race options from a kids fun run to an ultra. Entry prices range from £10 to £74.

A 56 miles trail ultramarathon on the Southern Upland Way in southern Scotland on 5 June 2027, with live GPS tracking, mandatory kit and staffed checkpoints. Entry is limited to 400 places and the overall cut off is 20 hours.

Obstacle-course weekend at Hopetoun Estate on 6 June 2027 offering Sprint, Super, Beast and a Kids Race, with a Trifecta-in-One-Day option and Tough Mudder Scotland on the same weekend.
