Trail Running Calendar Scotland 2026-2027

With 183 trail races in Scotland lined up for the 2026-2027 season, there's a race for every level of runner. In Glasgow, take on the challenge of the city's lush parks, where the trails are as welcoming as the locals. Transition to the cobbled streets and ancient edifices of Edinburgh, where running is not just exercise but a communion with history, as you breeze past the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, the city's very own mountain.

Heading northeast, Aberdeen's coastal trails offer a refreshing run with the North Sea as your companion, or venture into Dundee, where the revitalized waterfront serves as a picturesque starting line for a running experience filled with scenic views and a fresh, maritime air.

Just outside the hustle and bustle, Paisley presents a runner’s paradise with its undulating hills, a test of endurance. Lastly, East Kilbride calls to nature lovers with its tranquil woodland trails, where the peace and quiet of the forest canopy creates an idyllic backdrop for both the casual jogger and the competitive sprinter.

A scenic, multi-terrain 10K held in Newburgh. The community event is staged as an editioned race and will be held for the 12th time on Saturday 20/03/27, with past editions including a 2022 race.

The Race Dunvegan will take place in Dunvegan from Saturday 20 March 2027 to Monday 22 March 2027. You can run between 5 and 10 kilometers.

April 2027

A two day off road ultramarathon around the Isle of Arran covering 60 miles across coastal paths, forests and mountain terrain. The event is fully waymarked, supported at pit stops and backed by a professional medical team.

A timed Backyard Ultra at Beecraigs Country Park where runners repeat a 4.167 mile loop each hour until one runner completes a solo lap. Camping, parking for one vehicle and basic facilities are provided.

A scenic 10 km and 1 km fun run from Monachyle Mhor that traces Loch Doine into Monachyle Glen. Chip timed with medals, water stops and category prizes.

A 125 km, three-stage coastal mountain ultramarathon on the remote Knoydart Peninsula with base camp at Longbeach, Inverie. Solo or team entry options, tent accommodation, GPS tracking and checkpoint support; places limited to 90.

May 2027

A 90K UTMB Index 100K ultra along the historic Pilgrim Way from North Queensferry to St Andrews Cathedral. The fully marked route crosses towns such as Dunfermline and Ceres, includes 1,200 m of ascent and GPS tracking.

Two days of multi-distance trail running in the Scottish Highlands around Loch Ness, with seven race options, regular aid stations and camping for longer distances. Distances range from ultramarathon to a short Dash.

Two coastal trail races along the Moray coastline offering a 50 mile ultra and a 50 km route that pass Findhorn, Lossiemouth, Spey Bay and finish in Cullen, with pre-race buses from Cullen to the start points.

Trail races on sections of the Kintyre Way in Scotland, with varied terrain from hills and woods to beaches and seaside rocks. Runners can enter solo or as part of relay teams and benefit from waymarking, checkpoints and GPS timing.

Time-limited ultramarathon on the Formartine and Buchan railway between Maud and Auchnagatt with 12 hour and 6 hour options. Competitors aim to cover as much distance as possible and must reach at least 26.3 miles for a medal.

A 5 km obstacle event at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy, on 9 May 2027. The grass-start course loops through parkland with steep hills and obstacles; participants must be 13 or older and a minimum fundraising target applies.

A mud and obstacle run in Aberdeen on 16 May 2027 offering 5 km and 10 km options for adults and supervised teenagers. Entries include a tech T-shirt and finisher's medal, with free parking and event photos.

June 2027

Ultra Scotland 50 and 100 Mile takes place on 5 June 2027 in the United Kingdom and is organised by GB ULTRAS Ltd. The event features supported 50 mile and 100 mile ultramarathons with live GPS tracking via GB Race Tracker.

A trail running event at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl on 5 June 2027 with multiple race options from a kids fun run to an ultra. Entry prices range from £10 to £74.

A multi distance Spartan obstacle weekend at Hopetoun Estate near Edinburgh, featuring Sprint, Super, Beast and a kids race. The event includes coastal countryside terrain and a Trifecta option across all three adult races.

August 2027

Scottish 6 Days Perthshire 2027 is a five day forest orienteering event in Highland Perthshire from 1 to 6 August 2027, marking the 50th anniversary. It features varied terrain, age class and colour coded courses plus rest day activities.

A fully supported, waymarked 100 mile ultramarathon from Glamis Castle to Stirling Castle with a 48 hour completion window. Part of a three event trilogy that awards a special buckle for all three finishes.

May 2028

A new single day ultra of about 34.5 miles from Perth to Pitlochry, MTC GRIMALKIN is Day 4 of the nine day MTC SCOTIA series. Entry is limited, mandatory kit and tracking are required, and all finishers receive a medal.

MTC GLAISTIG is a 31.3 mile single day ultra from Innerleithen to Travelodge Edinburgh Airport. It is day two of the nine day MTC SCOTIA series, limited to 40 runners, with mandatory kit, tracking and a finisher medal.
