Formartine & Buchan Railway 12 and 6 hour Ultra

This event stages timed endurance races on the Formartine & Buchan railway line between Maud railway station and Auchnagatt village hall. The distance between Maud and Auchnagatt is estimated at 4.3 miles. Competitors run as much distance as they can within a timed limit, with a stated minimum distance of 26.3 required to qualify for a medal and goodie bag. Mini laps will be open toward the end of the race and only completed mini short laps are counted.

Two course options are listed: a 12 hour event and a 6 hour event. Entry requires registration through the event entry system. Entry fees are shown as UKA Member £60.00 and Non Member £62.00. Entries open 11 May 2025 and close 15 March 2026.

Participants must be 20 years or older in line with Scottish Athletics rules. Prior completion of a marathon is preferred but not mandatory. Support crews are permitted and may provide assistance at either end of the course.

Prizes are planned by category. For the 12 hour event there are male and female senior, veteran, vet 50 and vet 60 categories. For the 6 hour event prizes are awarded for first, second and third places. A bespoke overall male and female champion trophy is also listed.
