Formartine & Buchan Railway 12&6hr Ultra

The Formartine & Buchan Railway 12&6hr Ultra is an endurance event held on the historic railway line between Maud Railway Museum and Auchnagatt. Participants navigate a course with an estimated one-way distance of 4.3 to 4.5 miles between Maud station and Auchnagatt village hall. The objective is to record the maximum possible distance within the designated time limit.

The event offers two primary duration options:

  • 12 Hour
  • 6 Hour

Participants must be at least 20 years old on the day of the race. While having completed a marathon previously is preferred by the organizers, it is not a mandatory requirement for entry. Runners must achieve a minimum distance of 26.3 miles to be eligible for a medal and a goodie bag. To reach or confirm this minimum distance, participants may need to complete extra miles beyond specific laps. Toward the end of the event, mini short laps are made available to help runners maximize their final distance tally. Only fully completed mini laps are included in the final results.

The event is held under Scottish Athletics rules. Support crews are permitted to assist runners at both ends of the point-to-point section. Prizes are awarded across various categories, including Senior and multiple Veteran age classes ranging from 40 to 60 plus. Overall champions in the male and female categories receive a bespoke trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
