Formartine & Buchan Railway 12&6 Ultra
The Formartine & Buchan Railway 12&6 Ultra is a time-limited endurance event that uses the former Formartine and Buchan railway line between Maud railway station and Auchnagatt village hall. The event offers a twelve hour race and a six hour race; competitors cover as much distance as they can within the chosen time limit.
The distance between Maud and Auchnagatt is given as approximately 4.3 miles. Competitors in the 12 hour race must achieve a minimum distance of 26.3 miles to qualify for a medal and goodie bag. A few extra miles may be required to complete and confirm the minimum distance lap. Mini laps will be opened toward the end of the race and only completed mini short laps are counted.
Entries open on 16 May 2026 and close on 14 March 2027. The event has an age minimum of 20 years and older; completion of a marathon is preferred but not required. Support crews are advised and may provide assistance at either end of the course. The start location is Maud railway station, postcode AB42 5LY. Entry fees listed are £60 for UKA members and £62 for non members. Prizes are awarded across age and gender categories for the 12 hour race and top finishers in the 6 hour race, plus an overall male and female champion trophy returned annually.
