Formartine & Buchan Railway 12&6 Ultra
This is a timed ultra running event held along the Formartine and Buchan railway line between Maud railway station and Auchnagatt village hall. Competitors aim to cover as much distance as they can during the chosen time period, with both 12 hour and 6 hour options available.
The route between Maud and Auchnagatt is estimated at approximately 4.3 miles. To qualify for a medal and goodie bag competitors must achieve a minimum distance of 26.3 miles; a few extra miles may be needed to complete and confirm that minimum lap. Mini laps are opened toward the end of the event and only fully completed mini short laps are counted.
Entry rules state a minimum age of 20 years for participants. Marathon completion is preferred but not required. Participants are advised to have a support crew; crews can provide support at either end of the course. Prizes are awarded in multiple categories for the 12 hour event including senior, veteran, vet 50 and vet 60 classes, and there are 1st to 3rd place prizes for the 6 hour event.
