Formartine & Buchan Railway 12&6hr Ultra

The Formartine & Buchan Railway 12&6hr Ultra is a timed endurance event held on the Formartine & Buchan railway line between Maud railway station and Auchnagatt village hall. Competitors aim to cover as much distance as they can within their chosen time limit.

The event offers two timed options: a 12-hour race and a 6-hour race. The distance between Maud and Auchnagatt is estimated at about 4.3 miles. For the 12-hour event there is a stated minimum distance of 26.3 to qualify for a medal and goodie bag; a few extra miles may be needed to complete and confirm that minimum distance lap. Mini laps will be open toward the end of the race and only completed mini short laps are counted.

Organisers prefer entrants to have completed a marathon previously, but this is not a requirement. Crews are advised and may provide support at either end of the course. Age restrictions apply; entrants must be 20 years or older in line with Scottish Athletics rules. The stated start location is Maud railway station, postcode AB42 5LY.

Prizes are offered by category for the 12-hour event by gender and veteran classes, plus overall male and female champion trophies. The 6-hour event awards first, second and third places. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
