Event Overview

The Formartine & Buchan Railway Ultra is a timed running event with a 12-hour and a 6-hour option. It takes place on the Formartine & Buchan railway line between Maud station and Auchnagatt village hall. The one-way distance for this out-and-back course is approximately 4.3 miles.

Course and Format

Participants aim to run as many laps as possible within their chosen time limit. The event requires runners to complete a minimum distance to qualify for a medal and goodie bag. For the 12-hour event, the minimum qualifying distance is 26.3 miles. Shorter "mini laps" are available towards the end of the race, with only completed laps counting toward the total distance. Having completed a marathon previously is preferred but not mandatory, and participants are advised to have a support crew.
