The Formartine & Buchan Railway 12 & 6 hour Ultra takes place on 9 May 2026 at Maud Railway Museum, with the start at Maud railway station (postcode AB42 5LY). The race uses the Formartine & Buchan railway line between Maud and Auchnagatt; the one-way distance between Maud and Auchnagatt is estimated at 4.3 miles. There are two timed courses: a 12-hour and a 6-hour event. Competitors run as much distance as they can within the timed period. Mini laps will be open toward the end of the race and only completed mini short laps are counted. Participants must reach a minimum distance of 26.3 miles to qualify for a medal and goodie bag; a few extra miles may be needed to complete and confirm that minimum lap. The event notes that having completed a marathon is preferred but not required. Age restriction is 20 years and older under Scottish Athletics rules. Support crews are advised and may provide support at either end of the course.

Entries, fees and prizes

Entries open 11 May 2025 and close 15 March 2026. Entry fees are £60 for UKA members and £62 for non-members. The entry list shows 7 participants so far. Prize categories include male and female senior, veteran, Vet 50 and Vet 60 for the 12-hour race; 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the 6-hour race; plus an overall male and female champion trophy returned to the organisers annually.
