Belgian Ultrarunner Karel Sabbe's Record-Breaking Pacific Crest Trail Run Showcased in New YouTube Documentary

Belgian ultrarunner Karel Sabbe's incredible achievement of setting a new Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is being chronicled in a new documentary released today on YouTube. Sabbe completed the 4,265-kilometer trail from Mexico to Canada in a record-breaking time of 46 days, 12 hours, and 50 minutes.

The film, set aired on Backcountry's YouTube channel on Tuesday, October 10th, will showcase Sabbe's astonishing pace of 94 kilometers per day and highlight his journey through the scenic and challenging California section of the PCT. The documentary will also delve into the motivations behind Sabbe's epic adventure and provide insights into the teamwork and preparation involved, as he was supported by his dedicated crew.

Sharing his excitement about the film's release, Sabbe took to Instagram to express his enthusiasm. He invited viewers to witness the stunning beauty of the PCT and gain an understanding of the personal drive that fueled his record-setting accomplishment. Additionally, he announced plans for a big-screen screening of the documentary on November 3rd in Waregem, Belgium, accompanied by a presentation and Q&A session with himself and his crew.

Sabbe's triumph on the PCT this year allowed him to reclaim the supported FKT from Timothy Olson, who had surpassed Sabbe's 2016 effort by about 15 hours. With his FKT exploits gaining recognition, Sabbe has established himself as an expert in breaking records on iconic trails. In 2018, he achieved the fastest supported time on the east coast's Appalachian Trail, covering the 3,522-kilometer route in 41 days, seven hours, and 39 minutes. In 2021, he set a supported FKT on the Via Alpina Red Trail, a 2,496-kilometer trek that passes through several European countries.

Sabbe has previously shared his running adventures through feature films, including recaps of the Barkley Marathons and Via Alpina Red Trail, which have garnered substantial viewership on YouTube. His upcoming documentary on his Pacific Crest Trail FKT is expected to captivate audiences and inspire awe for his incredible endurance and determination.
