Trail Running Calendar Scotland 2026-2027

With 197 trail races in Scotland lined up for the 2026-2027 season, there's a race for every level of runner. In Glasgow, take on the challenge of the city's lush parks, where the trails are as welcoming as the locals. Transition to the cobbled streets and ancient edifices of Edinburgh, where running is not just exercise but a communion with history, as you breeze past the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, the city's very own mountain.

Heading northeast, Aberdeen's coastal trails offer a refreshing run with the North Sea as your companion, or venture into Dundee, where the revitalized waterfront serves as a picturesque starting line for a running experience filled with scenic views and a fresh, maritime air.

Just outside the hustle and bustle, Paisley presents a runner’s paradise with its undulating hills, a test of endurance. Lastly, East Kilbride calls to nature lovers with its tranquil woodland trails, where the peace and quiet of the forest canopy creates an idyllic backdrop for both the casual jogger and the competitive sprinter.

A seaside 5 km out and back on West Sands, St Andrews with a one mile children's fun run and chip timing. Entry fees support RNLI and two local charities and finishers receive post race refreshments.

June 2026

Loch Thom Trail Race on Wednesday 3rd June features a revised 5K out and back and a junior 3K around Greenock Cut Visitor Centre, with all entry fees donated to Athletics Trust Scotland.

A 50 km out and back ultramarathon along the Ayrshire Coast starting and finishing at Irvine Beach, running across beaches, promenades and trails from sunset to sunrise. Aid stations at 12, 25 and 37 km with a drop bag option at 25 km.

A 56 mile Southern Upland Way trail race on 6 June 2026 with 2447 m of ascent, 400 places and a 20 hour cut off. The event uses mandatory GPS tracking, enforced checkpoints and detailed mandatory kit requirements.

A 104 mile trail ultramarathon along the Southern Upland Way from St Johns Town of Dalry to Galashiels, with 4611m of ascent and live GPS tracking. The event has 250 places, a 38 hour cut off and awards finishers a tiered buckle.

A 31 miles ultra around Loch Lyon and into Glen Lochay with about 3,500 ft of ascent. The mostly off road route includes several river crossings, multiple water checkpoints and mandatory kit requirements.

Glentress 8 Hour Challenge is an 8 hour running event at Glentress on 6 June 2026 organised by NU Limits Running. Registration for this edition closed on 3 March 2026.

A Scottish Athletics affiliated *10 km* trail race in Killearn on 6 June 2026, run over mixed surfaces with about 310 ft of elevation. Entries include a technical t-shirt or vest and official bib transfers are allowed until 31 March 2026.

A 27 km mountain race along the Trotternish Ridge from Flodigary to Storr Lochs, with about 2000 m of ascent and unmarked navigation between checkpoints. Entries are limited and the event follows Scottish Hill Runners kit rules.

A non competitive summer run on 6 June 2026 from BrewDog Castlegate to BrewDog DogTap in Ellon, with an alternative start at Dyce for a shorter route. Two drink stations, bag transport and a medal with a goody bag are included.

A mountain hill race in the Western Mamores covering about 13 km and 1300 m of ascent over two Munro summits. The unmarked, clockwise route starts and finishes near Lower Falls and requires mandatory mountain safety kit.

A 15.5 mile off road loop around Loch Lyon in the Perthshire hills with about 1,500 ft of ascent, multiple river crossings and a mid race water station. Camping is available at the dam the night before.

Obstacle races at Hopetoun Estate near Edinburgh on June 7, 2026 include Sprint 5 km, Super 10 km and Beast 21 km, plus a kids race. Participants can attempt a Trifecta in one day while Tough Mudder Scotland runs the same weekend.

A community trail run of approximately 10k at Palacerigg Country Park, raising funds for Freedom City Foundation. The undulating route uses single track and forest paths, includes a shuttle from Greenfaulds Station, and is open to participa..

A trail race of about 8.4 miles through the West Highland Way and Mugdock Country Park, chip timed and fully marshalled, with a 300 runner limit. Proceeds support the 20th Glasgow Scout Group and finishers receive a medal and refreshments.

Five mile trail on the Isle of Arran with about 600 feet of ascent, running from Whiting Bay past Glen Ashdale Falls and through Forestry roads and the Fairy Glen. Scottish Athletics licensed event, age limit 16 and over.

A three day ultra running challenge along the West Highland Way covering about 54 km, 42 km and 58 km on successive days. Small group format with overnight bag transfer and varied Highland scenery from Loch Lomond to Fort William.

A hill race in the Pentland Hills on 10 June 2026 with senior and junior routes. The senior course covers about 5.2 km with a 310 m climb and includes steep, heathered summit sections and marshalled tracks.

A 5 km beach race at Balmedie Beach on 11 June 2026, organised by Cosmics. Entry is £5 and the course has about 30 m of climb, with course records of 23:51 (male) and 30:08 (female) from 2024.

An evening two-lap race in Linn Park on Glasgow's south side, covering just under 8 km and featuring the park waterfall and historic Halfpenny Bridge. The event is manually timed, supports the Friends of Linn Park, and has limited entry.
