Trail Running Calendar Scotland 2026-2027

With 205 trail races in Scotland lined up for the 2026-2027 season, there's a race for every level of runner. In Glasgow, take on the challenge of the city's lush parks, where the trails are as welcoming as the locals. Transition to the cobbled streets and ancient edifices of Edinburgh, where running is not just exercise but a communion with history, as you breeze past the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, the city's very own mountain.

Heading northeast, Aberdeen's coastal trails offer a refreshing run with the North Sea as your companion, or venture into Dundee, where the revitalized waterfront serves as a picturesque starting line for a running experience filled with scenic views and a fresh, maritime air.

Just outside the hustle and bustle, Paisley presents a runner’s paradise with its undulating hills, a test of endurance. Lastly, East Kilbride calls to nature lovers with its tranquil woodland trails, where the peace and quiet of the forest canopy creates an idyllic backdrop for both the casual jogger and the competitive sprinter.

A 79 mile self navigation ultramarathon across the Isle of Skye with seven checkpoints and a 27 hour cut off. Entry is by application only, limited to 100 places, and requires mountain experience and mandatory kit.

A rugged fell race on the Isle of Jura covering 28 km with 2,370 m of ascent across seven summits; entry is limited to 250 places and official results and course records are published.

Kirkhill 8 is a trail loop event at Kirkhill Forest where runners repeat a 4.3 mile lap over eight hours to target any total distance. The event required pre entry, a minimum kit list and a minimum age of 18.

Community trail run in Tomatin with 5k and 10k routes on rural, undulating roads and paths, two to three water stations, medals for finishers and trophies for fastest categories; minimum age 4 with under 10s accompanied by an adult.

MacTuffX Glasgow on 24 May 2026 combines running with ten Xercises across solo, doubles and relay formats. Entry categories include standard and LITE weight divisions with fees varying by category.

A final local trail race in St Boswells covering about 13 km across river trails, open fields and rooty paths with a historical Wobbly Bridge midway. Numbers are issued in the village Hall and entry is £15.

MacTuffX Aberdeen on 25 May 2026 at Aberdeen Sports Village offers ten Xercises plus running in solo, doubles and relay formats with classic and double distances, weight divisions and a LITE option. A leaderboard tracks race and division re..

A guided social trail run of approximately 9 km through Mugdock Park and Craigallian Woods, aimed at runners who can run a road 10 km in under 60 minutes. Mud is likely and the group is led by a qualified, first aid trained guide.

Experience a premier trail running weekend in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Choose from multiple distances ranging from 7km to a 58km ultra, complemented by live music, yoga, and outdoor cinema at historic Blair Castle.

A mainly offroad walking event from Peebles offering *27.6 miles* or *16.4 miles* routes with large climbs above the Tweed Valley and a finish in Peebles with hot food available.

A point to point 96 mile ultra along the West Highland Way from Fort William to Milngavie with nine support locations and race trackers. An optional Ben Nevis extension raises the distance to 107 miles and adds significant mountain ascent.

A 16 km unmarked hill race in the Lowther Hills with 1200 m of climb, limited to 200 runners. Competitors must carry mandatory kit, bring a refillable cup for water stations, and be prepared to navigate open, pathless terrain.

Chariots of Fire Beach Race is a 5 km out and back on West Sands, St Andrews, with a 1 mile children's fun run. The event uses chip timing, offers post race refreshments and raises funds for RNLI and local charities.

June 2026

Loch Thom Trail Race on Wednesday 3rd June features a revised 5K out and back and a junior 3K around Greenock Cut Visitor Centre, with all entry fees donated to Athletics Trust Scotland.

A 50 km out and back ultramarathon along the Ayrshire coast from Irvine Beach, running on beaches, promenades and trails. Aid stations at 12 km, 25 km and 37 km, drop bag option at 25 km, and finisher medals and goody bags.

A 56 mile Southern Upland Way trail race on 6 June 2026 with 2447 m of ascent, 400 places and a 20 hour cut off. The event uses mandatory GPS tracking, enforced checkpoints and detailed mandatory kit requirements.

A 104 mile trail ultramarathon along the Southern Upland Way from St Johns Town of Dalry to Galashiels, with 4611m of ascent and live GPS tracking. The event has 250 places, a 38 hour cut off and awards finishers a tiered buckle.

A 31 miles ultra around Loch Lyon and into Glen Lochay with about 3,500 ft of ascent. The mostly off road route includes several river crossings, multiple water checkpoints and mandatory kit requirements.

Glentress 8 Hour Challenge is an 8 hour running event at Glentress on 6 June 2026 organised by NU Limits Running. Registration for this edition closed on 3 March 2026.

A Scottish Athletics affiliated *10 km* trail race in Killearn on 6 June 2026, run over mixed surfaces with about 310 ft of elevation. Entries include a technical t-shirt or vest and official bib transfers are allowed until 31 March 2026.
