Aonach Mor Uphill 2027 (New Year)

The Aonach Mor Uphill is a vertical running event held on New Year's Day at the Nevis Range Ski Centre near Fort William. The course covers a distance of 3 km with a total ascent of 610 m. The route begins at the Nevis Range car park and finishes at the top gondola station. In the event of adverse weather where the gondola is not operational, an alternative route is used, running from the bottom station up to Tower 13 and back.

The event is open to participants aged 18 and older and is capped at 150 entries. Registration takes place at the venue on the morning of the event. To promote diversity, the organizers allocate 50% of the available places to women and non-binary runners. Entry is managed through a pre-selection list system where successful applicants receive an invitation to pay and confirm their spot.

Participants are required to carry specific safety equipment, and kit checks are conducted at registration and at the finish line. Required items include:

  • Waterproof jacket with a hood and taped seams
  • Waterproof over-trousers with taped seams
  • Warm hat or buff
  • Gloves or mitts

Practical facilities include toilets at both the start and finish lines. Runners can transport a bag of warm clothing to the finish area via the gondola during the registration period. Following the race, participants can return to the base for free via the gondola or choose to run down. Post-race refreshments, including soup, a roll, and tea or coffee, are provided at the Snowgoose Cafe or the Pinemartin Cafe depending on the route used. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
