Ultra Scotland 100 is a 104-mile trail ultramarathon with approximately 4611 m of elevation. The route follows the Southern Upland Way from St John’s Town of Dalry to Galashiels and passes features such as Benbrack, Gateshaw Rig, Lowther Hill (701 m), Minch Moor, Daer Reservoir, Three Brethren and St Mary’s Loch. The event is way-marked as one of Scotland’s Great Trails and carries UTMB performance index and ITRA mountain points. The race is limited to 250 places, has a 38-hour overall cut-off and uses live online GPS tracking provided by GB Race Tracker.
Entry, requirements and race services
Entrants must be at least 20 years old, in good health and have completed a marathon distance previously. A hardcopy Southern Upland Way map and a set of mandatory kit must be carried at all times; key items include a waterproof coat with sealed seams, waterproof pants, base layer long sleeve, compass, 1-litre water capacity, fully charged mobile phone, emergency thermal bag, headtorch (min 75 lumens) plus a backup light (min 25 lumens), emergency rations (min 500 calories), whistle and the event GPS tracker. Random kit checks are carried out and failure to carry mandatory kit may lead to disqualification. Checkpoints (except water-only points) offer a range of food and hot meals and have medical cover. One pacer is permitted from the halfway point (Checkpoint 7) and separate dropbags are allowed for Checkpoint 7, Checkpoint 8 and the finish.
