Bruce's Crown race

Bruce's Crown is a long-distance mountain running event in Galloway, starting and finishing at Caldons near Glentrool, Newton Stewart. The route covers upland terrain across three hill ranges and has substantial ascent.

The event distance:

  • 46 miles

The course runs over the Minnigaff Hills, the Rhinns of Kells and the Awful Hand, with total climbing of over 4,000 metres. The route has very few paths and variable underfoot conditions, so good navigation skills are required. There are two on-route cutoffs and an overall 24-hour cutoff to complete the event.

The race is supported with three manned food checkpoints that serve soup, food and drinks. Mountain rescue teams are stationed on each of the three ranges for safety and support during the event. On clear days participants may have wide-ranging views, including distant mountain areas to the north, south, east and west.

Entries are accepted for Solo runners or teams of two, three or four. The event uses pre-selection lists to allocate entries; payment is required only if an entry offer is made. Team members must stay together and check into each checkpoint as a complete team to be eligible for team prizes. Minimum age to enter is 18. After expenses, event proceeds will be donated to the local mountain rescue team for their base development. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
