Trail Running Calendar Scotland 2026-2027

With 204 trail races in Scotland lined up for the 2026-2027 season, there's a race for every level of runner. In Glasgow, take on the challenge of the city's lush parks, where the trails are as welcoming as the locals. Transition to the cobbled streets and ancient edifices of Edinburgh, where running is not just exercise but a communion with history, as you breeze past the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, the city's very own mountain.

Heading northeast, Aberdeen's coastal trails offer a refreshing run with the North Sea as your companion, or venture into Dundee, where the revitalized waterfront serves as a picturesque starting line for a running experience filled with scenic views and a fresh, maritime air.

Just outside the hustle and bustle, Paisley presents a runner’s paradise with its undulating hills, a test of endurance. Lastly, East Kilbride calls to nature lovers with its tranquil woodland trails, where the peace and quiet of the forest canopy creates an idyllic backdrop for both the casual jogger and the competitive sprinter.

A 125 km coastal mountain ultra on the Knoydart Peninsula in Scotland, staged over three race days from a base camp at Longbeach, Inverie. The event uses staffed checkpoints, tents for accommodation and boat transfers to reach the start.

A 5.8 km hill race on 29 April 2026 with 229 m of ascent, limited to 150 entries and a £8 fee that includes the landowner charge. The route is mostly runnable with one short steep climb and mandatory minimum kit.

A guided 10 km trail run from the Forth and Clyde Canal around Bishopbriggs, Torrance and Kirkintilloch. Social group run with a qualified guide; trail shoes required and dogs and under 18s are not permitted.

May 2026

Ultra X Scotland on May 2 2026 stages trail races from 12 km to 110 km across the Scottish Highlands. The event has marked courses, aid stations about every 10 km and UTMB World Series indexing.

A 90K UTMB Index 100K race along the Pilgrim Way from North Queensferry to St Andrews Cathedral, with 1,200 m of climbing, a 15 hour limit and an age minimum of 20; field capped at 150 runners.

An outdoor obstacle course in Fife on 2 May 2026 offering 5 km and 10 km options for adults, with supervised teenagers allowed; entry includes a Tec T shirt and finishers medal, plus free parking and event photos.

This annual half marathon takes runners to the Hebridean island of Tiree. The event, which started in 2006, includes a friendly atmosphere and a traditional ceilidh in the evening.

An annual 20 km hill race in Strathyre, Perthshire, with over 5000 ft of ascent that reaches the summits of Ben Each and the Stuc a' Chroin. The event includes a licensed bar and a free ceilidh after the race.

A primarily off-road 5.6 miles (9k) race around the Pad near Neilston, starting and finishing at the Neilston Show Field. The route features road, path, trail and muddy sections with a short steep climb, entrants must be 16 or over.

An adult obstacle course at Knockhill Racing Circuit offering 5 km and 10 km routes across hilly, muddy and wet terrain. Registration is online only and a signed waiver and wristband are required for participation and to receive a medal.

A multi terrain half marathon on the Isle of Benbecula that can be run solo or as a pair. The route crosses machair and beaches including Liniclate, Stinky Bay and Culla Bay and includes uneven ground with rabbit burrows.

Test your limits at Saughton with a combination of functional exercises and interval running. Choose from Solo, Doubles, or Relay formats with Classic or Double distances to suit your fitness level.

A guided social trail run on 07 May 2026 from Milngavie Train Station exploring sections of the Clyde Coastal Path and West Highland Way. Guided, insured, trail shoes required, not for profit.

Timed endurance races on the Formartine & Buchan railway between Maud and Auchnagatt, with 12-hour and 6-hour options. Entrants aged 20 or older aim to cover maximum distance to qualify for medals and category prizes.

A 55 miles (90 km) circular ultramarathon from Gulabin Lodge in Glenshee, mostly off road with about 7,450 ft of ascent and a climb to An Lairig Pass. The event uses set cut-off points including a strict Enochdu cut-off.

A 35 mile trail running event on the Kintyre Way from Tayinloan to Campbeltown on 9 May 2026. Waymarked route with GPS tracking, drop-bag service, finish showers and massage, with solo and relay entry options.

Join the Saltire Trail Races in Athelstaneford on Saturday 9 May 2026 for scenic 2 km, 5 km and 10 km farm trails at Kilduff Farm. Family friendly fun and village fair treats raise funds for Athelstaneford Primary School.

Traditional Scottish hill race on Ben Lomond with a 12.6 km route and 960 m ascent. Entry is limited to 100 runners and strict kit checks require waterproofs, hat, gloves and a whistle for safety.
