Trail Running Calendar Scotland 2026-2027

With 170 trail races in Scotland lined up for the 2026-2027 season, there's a race for every level of runner. In Glasgow, take on the challenge of the city's lush parks, where the trails are as welcoming as the locals. Transition to the cobbled streets and ancient edifices of Edinburgh, where running is not just exercise but a communion with history, as you breeze past the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, the city's very own mountain.

Heading northeast, Aberdeen's coastal trails offer a refreshing run with the North Sea as your companion, or venture into Dundee, where the revitalized waterfront serves as a picturesque starting line for a running experience filled with scenic views and a fresh, maritime air.

Just outside the hustle and bustle, Paisley presents a runner’s paradise with its undulating hills, a test of endurance. Lastly, East Kilbride calls to nature lovers with its tranquil woodland trails, where the peace and quiet of the forest canopy creates an idyllic backdrop for both the casual jogger and the competitive sprinter.

A 5.72 km hill race at Craibstone Golf Course in Aberdeen on 4 August 2026, part of the Krunce monthly series; entry £2 cash and field capped at 99.

The GBultras | Ultra Great Britain will take place in Stranraer on Saturday 8 August 2026.

A 215 mile coast to coast ultra along the Southern Upland Way with 12 checkpoints, a 100 hour cut off and entry by application for experienced, self-navigating runners.

Trail running from 5 km to 52.8 km around Airthrey Castle and the Ochil Hills with marked courses, aid outposts and mandatory kit for longer routes.

Three distances around Balloch Castle Country Park and Loch Lomond with chip timing, measured courses, finishers medals, hydration stations and free race photos. Age limits apply for 5k and 10k and on the day entries are usually available.

A new up and down hill race at the Kinross Show on 8 August 2026 with a mostly pathless 2.3 mile route, 750 ft ascent and included show access.

A multiple distance running festival on 09 Aug 2026 following the River Deveron from Turriff to Banff. Events include a half marathon, 10k, 5k trail and junior 1k, with medals, water stations and bus transport from registration to the start..

Weekend off-road running around Bowhill Estate with 5K, 10K, 25K and 50K options plus camping and prizes.

A hill race at the Ballater Highland Games with a marked route to the summit, village sections, and ongoing bonuses for new course records.

Two organised trail races along the Speyside Way on 15 August 2026, offering 50 km and 100 km routes from Aviemore to the coast at Buckie.

A 6.5 km circular hill race around Oldhamstocks with about 200 m of climb, mostly on rough track with short tarmac sections. Organised by Dunbar Running Club, registration and race numbers are issued at the village hall.

Fully off road 10 km trail race at Rock UK, Newcastleton on 15 August 2026 with forest tracks, singletrack, technical downhills and a marked marshalled course.

A long hill race on 15 August 2026 covering 26.07km with 1438m ascent across East and West Lomond. The unwaymarked route follows checkpoints, requires navigation and mandatory kit, and offers prize categories and a GPX file.

A 10th anniversary hill run on 16 August 2026 from Ritchie Hall, covering about 5.6 miles 9 km with 600 ft ascent and finisher medals.

Two short hill races on the grassy slopes of Cademuir Hill near Peebles, with 3 km and 6 km options and age-category prizes.

A 33 km hill race across the Ochil Hills with summit controls, mandatory mountain kit and bus transfer to the remote start.

Dunoon Ultra Marathon on 22 Aug 2026 follows the Loch Eck Loop, offering a 52.22 km solo option and a three leg relay with marked routes, checkpoints and finisher goodies.

A 109 km circular trail on the Borders Abbeys Way visiting four ruined abbeys, with 50 km and four person relay options plus staffed checkpoints.

A short hill race of about 3.5 miles and 700 feet of ascent held during the Glenurquhart Highland Games in Drumnadrochit on 22 August 2026.

A 10 km marked trail around Bertha Loch and Almondbank with technical and muddy sections, woodland terrain and handcrafted finisher medals. Routes change by season and the August run accompanies a 12 hour lapped event.
