Trail Running Calendar Scotland 2026-2027

With 184 trail races in Scotland lined up for the 2026-2027 season, there's a race for every level of runner. In Glasgow, take on the challenge of the city's lush parks, where the trails are as welcoming as the locals. Transition to the cobbled streets and ancient edifices of Edinburgh, where running is not just exercise but a communion with history, as you breeze past the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, the city's very own mountain.

Heading northeast, Aberdeen's coastal trails offer a refreshing run with the North Sea as your companion, or venture into Dundee, where the revitalized waterfront serves as a picturesque starting line for a running experience filled with scenic views and a fresh, maritime air.

Just outside the hustle and bustle, Paisley presents a runner’s paradise with its undulating hills, a test of endurance. Lastly, East Kilbride calls to nature lovers with its tranquil woodland trails, where the peace and quiet of the forest canopy creates an idyllic backdrop for both the casual jogger and the competitive sprinter.

A 14.6 km hill race with 966 m of ascent through Ochils Woodland Park, visiting Andrew Gannel Hill, Ben Cleuch, Ben Ever and The Nebit, with registration at Alva Scout Hall and prizes for top finishers and age categories.

A 38 mile ultramarathon and a four leg relay around Jedburgh on 24 October 2026, with marked route, checkpoints and compulsory safety kit. Limited entry and team places; event proceeds support local charities.

A two day self reliant mountain marathon in Scotland on 24 and 25 October 2026. Teams navigate with map and compass, carry overnight kit and choose between line or score courses across a rugged event area.

A *10 km* trail race from Auchterarder into the Ochil Hills with forest trails, stream crossings and a route shaped like a chilli pepper. Online entry, 16+ age limit, goody bag with snood and medal, prizes for finishers and costumes.

A scenic trail half marathon around Dalmeny Estate and Cammo Nature Reserve near South Queensferry. The chip timed 13.1 mile course has under 1000 ft of ascent and includes a finisher medal, prizes and on site facilities.

November 2026

A mixed terrain trail festival at Tentsmuir Forest near Tayport offering a half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, junior 5 km and a 1.2 km family fun run with marshalled, signposted routes and charitable proceeds for the Tayport Community Trust.

A multi terrain 10 km race on 1 November 2026 with a reversed route featuring road and trail sections, views over Loch Tulla and a finishing descent across the Bridge of Orchy. Entries are limited and the event uses chip timing.

A 50 km trail race on 7 November 2026 following the Dava Way from Grantown-on-Spey to Forres, mostly on the old Highland Railway line. Mixed woodland and moorland terrain, Dava Summit climbs, 300 entries and an 8 hour cutoff.

Knockfarrel Hill Race on 7 November 2026 is an 8 km hill race with 300 m of climb, with day-of-event registration at Strathpeffer Community Centre replacing the previous Shinty Pavilion location.

A six hour nocturnal ultra on a well marked 5 km off road loop where solo runners or teams of up to three try to complete as many laps as possible. Each lap returns to a tented base with kit, food and support plus music and lights.

Short Course Cross Country Championships at Kirkcaldy High School on 7 November 2026. ProTay provides race pack fulfilment and timing while working with scottishathletics.

A roughly 33 mile footrace in Perthshire from Killin to Strathyre along parts of cycle route No 7 and the Rob Roy Way, with midrace checkpoints, a drop-bag at Strathyre and mandatory kit for November Highland conditions.

A half marathon through the Kilpatrick Hills near Overtoun House in Dumbarton on 14 November 2026, using single-track trails and forestry roads with rolling climbs. The race is full and a waiting list is open.

A multi-terrain ultra around the Tweed Valley based at Glentress Peel Visitor Centre in mid-November. Two route options, 65 km and 50 km, follow forest trails, riverside paths and open moorland with marked routes and aid stations.

A single 5 km race at Linn Park on 15 November 2026, part of the South By Five series across six parks. Entry is free with a required minimum donation to the Acorn Trails Community Fund.

An eight hour loop challenge at Culbin Forest where runners repeat 4.366 mile trail laps tracked by wristband timing; lap totals equate to half, full or ultra marathon distances.

Trail runs of 10 km, 5 km and a 1.2 km festive fun run take place at the Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill on 22 Nov 2026. Proceeds from the fun run go to Friends of the Hermitage and Braid and Morningside Primary School.

A solo 69 km trail run from Glamis Castle to Scone Palace with a marked route, checkpoints, GPS tracking and chip timing. Finishers receive a medal and meal voucher; entries for 2026 are open.

A single-entry 5 km race at Rouken Glen on 29 November 2026, part of the South By Five six-park series. Entry is free but places are limited and a mandatory donation to the Acorn Trails Community Fund applies.

December 2026

A festive trail running event within the private grounds of Glamis Castle in Angus. Distances include a family 1 mile plus 5 mile and 10 mile runs, with Canicross allowed except in the family mile.
