St Andrews West Sands 5k
The University of St Andrews Athletics and Cross Country presents a beach running event on West Sands, St Andrews, Fife (nearest postcode KY16 9XL). The race is a 5 km out-and-back route along the beach. Conditions may include cool October temperatures, strong northerly winds, and extensive sand underfoot.
Entry is online only and the field is limited to 150 participants. There are separate entry options for students and non-students; student entries require verification of student status. Standard entry fees are listed as £15 for students and £20 for non-students, with a £2 levy for non-scottishathletics members and discounted rates noted for members of SA EA WA. Entries close on 8th October 2026. Refunds are available only if an entry can be transferred to someone on the waiting list before entries close and will be issued less a £1 EntryCentral fee.
Practical arrangements include ample parking on the grass along West Sands Road and public toilets next to registration. There are no changing facilities, so participants are expected to arrive prepared. Registration and number collection take place on the day alongside the Blown Away Beach Hut. The minimum participant age is 11. The race will be manually timed and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers; results will be posted as soon as possible.
