About the race

Manor Water Hill Race is a single-course hill race of 10.5 miles (approximately 17 km) with about 2450 ft of ascent. The event is held alongside the Manor Sheepdog Trial and uses the same registration field and route as in 2025. The route starts and finishes at the registration field (NT 212395) and initially exits the field at NT 210390 before crossing a minor road and continuing across open ground.

The route crosses a stone wall at a mandatory gap or temporary stile at NT 205378, follows a short section of the waymarked John Buchan Way up Glack Hope to a gate in the drystone dyke, and then follows vehicle tracks near the march dyke over White Knowe and Whitelaw Hill to the dip known as Dead Wife’s Grave. The outward route continues along the dyke and fence to the top of Scrape hill (NT 176325), where runners must report to a summit marshal before returning by the same route. Checkpoints are provided in both directions at the wall gap/stile, at the gate near the top of the Glack, and on the Scrape summit.

Self-navigation is required; the route may be marked at intervals and a lower turning point (NT 181332) is defined as a bad weather alternative. Runners retiring between Dead Wife’s Grave and Scrape should report to the marshal’s vehicle at Dead Wife’s Grave. Refreshments and raffle tickets will be available for cash. Registration takes place in the Sheepdog Trials field at NT 212395. All competitors must carry full kit including a waterproof jacket with taped seams and hood, waterproof overtrousers, hat, gloves, map, compass and whistle; kit checks will take place at registration.
