Trail Running Calendar Scotland 2026-2027

With 208 trail races in Scotland lined up for the 2026-2027 season, there's a race for every level of runner. In Glasgow, take on the challenge of the city's lush parks, where the trails are as welcoming as the locals. Transition to the cobbled streets and ancient edifices of Edinburgh, where running is not just exercise but a communion with history, as you breeze past the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, the city's very own mountain.

Heading northeast, Aberdeen's coastal trails offer a refreshing run with the North Sea as your companion, or venture into Dundee, where the revitalized waterfront serves as a picturesque starting line for a running experience filled with scenic views and a fresh, maritime air.

Just outside the hustle and bustle, Paisley presents a runner’s paradise with its undulating hills, a test of endurance. Lastly, East Kilbride calls to nature lovers with its tranquil woodland trails, where the peace and quiet of the forest canopy creates an idyllic backdrop for both the casual jogger and the competitive sprinter.

A trail ultra on 15 August 2026 offering 50 km and 100 km options along the Speyside Way from the Cairngorms to the Moray coast, with published cutoffs, entry limits, and route files for competitors.

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Mormond Hill Run on a 5.6 mile course with stunning views. This 9 km hill run features 600 feet of ascent and awards bespoke medals to all finishers.

A 33 km fell race across the Ochil Hills with 1770 m of ascent, starting at Glen Sherrup and finishing at Stirling University. Summit controls mark the route and runners must carry compulsory map, compass, whistle and waterproofs.

A 10th anniversary trail event on the Loch Eck Loop featuring a 52.22 km route with 983 m of ascent. Solo and relay options run on fully signposted trails with checkpoints, refreshments and finisher items.

A trail ultra on the Borders Abbeys Way visiting four ruined abbeys. Options include a full 109K, a 50K and a four-person relay with checkpoints, drop bags and mandatory GPS tracking.

A short hill race within the Glenurquhart Highland Games in Drumnadrochit, about 3.5 miles with 700 feet of climb. Entry is via SiEntries, fee £10, minimum age 17.

A 10km trail run around Bertha Loch and Almondbank with technical, muddy sections through woods and gentle hills. A 12 hour lapped event called Big Bertha uses the same 10km loop for as many laps as participants choose.

A 12 hour trail challenge on a 10 km loop around Bertha Loch where runners go solo or in teams. The event features chip timing with live results, water on course, medics, marked marshalled trails, prizes and medals for finishers.

Seven mile trail race in Carron Valley Forestry on 22 August 2026, run on undulating forestry tracks toward Meikle Bin; chip timed, limited to 200 runners, with proceeds shared between Alzheimer Scotland and Ochils Mountain Rescue Team.

A trail running festival at Tulliallan on 23 Aug 2026 with half marathon, 10 km, 5 km and a 1.5 km family run, clearly marked off-road routes and proceeds from the fun run supporting local charities.

A scenic trail race of about 10K around Brodick on the Isle of Arran with roughly 600 feet of ascent. The route uses footpaths and forestry roads, starts at Ormidale Sports Pavilion, and has an entry limit of 100 runners.

A 5.7 mile trail race in Cardenden Woods on 23 August 2026 marking the 200th anniversary of Scotland’s last pistol duel, with mainly off-road terrain, limited places and on-site prize giving at the Corrie Centre.

A summer evening 5 km series across three Edinburgh parks with chip timing, marked courses, finisher medals and category prizes. Enter single races for £12 each or all three for £30.

A scenic, rural half marathon from Berneray to Lochmaddy with sea views for almost the entire route; the gently undulating, single-track course has been officially measured by Scottish Athletics.

Follow the iconic West Highland Way on this 53 mile point to point ultramarathon through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Enjoy a fully waymarked route with chip timing and extensive finish line facilities in Tyndrum.

A multi distance running festival at Kinloss Barracks on the Moray coast featuring road and runway courses plus a 4.1 mile Back Yard Ultra loop run hourly until one runner remains. Races include aid stations, prizes and finishers medals.

A 43 km, four-stage hill relay around Glen Lednock starting and finishing in Comrie village. Teams of five include a pair running the second leg; course sections range from trail-style to rough mountain terrain.

An inflatable obstacle course event at Strathclyde Country Park on 29 August 2026, with 2.5 km, 5 km, 10 km and 15 km options, music zones and large inflatable obstacles. Finishers receive a medal, goodie bag and post run drink.

A new 5K loop at Dunnikier Park, Kirkcaldy on 29 August 2026 as part of the Running Festival, with mixed surfaces, a one hour time limit, and a minimum age of 12.

Aberfoyle Trail Run 2026 includes a scenic 10k on mixed trails and a flat 1k for primary school children, both fully marked and electronically timed. Proceeds support Aberfoyle Primary School and local community groups.
