Montgomery, steeped in history, also grants trail runners the chance to connect with nature along the serene paths of its nearby parks. Travel south to Mobile to experience trail running in a coastal setting, where the city’s geographic diversity and lush greenery add to the satisfaction of trail runners.

Further north, Huntsville's proximity to the Appalachian foothills provides a more rugged terrain for those seeking a challenge amidst the beauty of the Monte Sano State Park and its surrounding areas. Tuscaloosa, with trails located along the Black Warrior River, offers runners the delightful combination of water views and woodland landscapes. Lastly, in Hoover, the suburban settings give way to unexpected natural retreats.

Eurocross 5K in Huntsville on June 6, 2026 features five laps of a 1 kilometer grass and dirt loop with two creek crossings per lap, and the entire course is visible from the spectator area.

A 10 mile lollipop trail race at Oak Mountain State Park near Pelham, AL featuring about 2k of vertical gain, one aid station at halfway, a four hour cutoff, and a $5 park entry fee.

July 2026

A Fourth of July tradition at Oak Mountain State Park, the 45th Peavine Falls Run features a chip-timed 8.2 mile race and race shirts, with registration details and a listed fee.

A July 4 event in Huntsville with a USATF-certified 5K and a new certified 1 Mile point to point course. Packet pick-up, childcare, post-race food, finisher medals, and age-group awards are offered.

A 7.4 mile trail run on July 4, 2026 in Pelham, Alabama that reaches King’s Chair on Double Oak Mountain. The event includes participant swag and a post race gathering.

Trail races of 4 and 8 miles at Monte Sano State Park as the second event in the Wild Thangs Trail Series, featuring bluff views, creek crossings and on-course aid stations. The race is capped at 400 runners and follows a cupless policy.

A night trail race at Frog Pond Overlook in Talladega National Forest offering 10K, 25K, 50K and 100K loop courses on dirt and gravel roads. The cupless event has aid stations, drop bag options for longer distances, and a 200 runner limit.

Trail ultramarathon in Columbus, Georgia with 25K, 50K and 50 mile options along the Fall Line Trace, Dragonfly Trail and RiverWalk. Aid stations serve regional foods and the field is capped at 100 runners.
