Zombie Backyard Ultra, Pelham AL

Zombie Backyard Ultra is a backyard-format endurance race held at Oak Mountain State Park near Pelham, AL, at 200 Terrace Drive. The event takes place on August 29, 2026 and is limited to 100 entrants. Registration closes on August 24 at 11:59 PM CT.

The course is a measured loop of 4.167 miles (4 miles 880 feet) with roughly 500 feet of gain and loss per lap. Runners have space to set up a tent or canopy with supplies at the start/finish area. Aid is limited at the start/finish; no personal aid is allowed while on a loop.

The format requires completing each loop within one hour. Each new loop begins exactly one hour after the previous loop. Competitors must be in the starting corral at the bell to begin a loop; warning bells sound 3, 2, and 1 minutes before each start and late starts are not permitted. Except for restroom use, competitors may not leave the course during a loop. Non-competitors, including eliminated runners, are not allowed on the course.

No artificial aids such as trekking poles are permitted. Slower runners must allow faster runners to pass. The winner is the last individual to complete a full loop; if no one completes an additional loop beyond others, there is no winner. All other participants receive results indicating distance covered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
