Zombie Backyard Ultra

Zombie Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, AL, near 200 Terrace Drive. The event uses a repeating loop course; each lap is measured at 4.167 miles (4 miles 880 feet) with approximately 500 feet of elevation gain and loss per lap.

The format requires competitors to complete each loop within one hour. Each loop starts exactly one hour after the previous start, and a warning bell sounds at 3, 2, and 1 minute(s) before each start. The starting corral is sized to hold the entire field and remains the same throughout the event; competitors must be inside the corral when the starting bell sounds to begin a loop.

Race logistics note limited aid at the start and finish areas. Runners have room on site to set up a tent or canopy for their supplies, but personal aid is not permitted while on a loop. Competitors may not leave the course during a lap except to use restrooms, and non-competitors are not allowed on the course, including participants who have been eliminated. Artificial aids such as trekking poles are not allowed. Slower runners must allow passing.

The event is capped at 100 participants. The winner is the last individual who completes a full loop; if no runner completes one more lap than any other, no winner is declared. Results record the distance covered by all participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
