Zombie Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, AL, with a venue address listed as 200 Terrace Drive. The course is 4 miles 880 feet in length and has roughly 500 feet of elevation gain and loss per loop. The format requires each loop to be completed within one hour. Each new loop begins precisely one hour after the previous loop, and runners must be in the starting corral at the bell to begin the next lap. Warning bells sound three, two, and one minutes before each loop start; all competitors must start at the bell and late starts are not permitted. Except for restroom use, competitors may not leave the course during a loop and no personal aid is allowed while on course. Non-competitors, including eliminated runners, are not permitted on the course.

Artificial aids such as trekking poles are not allowed. Slower runners are expected to allow passes. The winner is the last individual able to complete a loop; if no runner completes one more loop than the others, there is no winner. All participants receive results showing distance covered.
