Railroad Reckoning

Railroad Reckoning is a looped endurance event held on 09/05/2026 in Railroad Park in downtown Birmingham at 1600 1st Ave S. The course is an approximately 0.78 mile circuit that begins at the Railroad Park Pavilion and stays entirely inside the park.

Participants complete repeated laps on the same loop. The first lap has a 12 minute cutoff to finish. A second lap begins immediately with an 11 minute 50 second cutoff, and subsequent cutoffs decrease by 10 seconds each loop. Runners continue until they miss a cutoff or choose to stop. An aid station is available on course.

Finish recognition includes a certificate indicating total distance covered and awards presented to the final three male and female runners. Organizers note the format can produce a marathon distance depending on performance and present it as the only marathon in the city of Birmingham; for reference the fastest loop pace for a marathon would be 8:20 per mile. A custom Railroad Reckoning shirt is provided. Registrations received by July 31 are guaranteed a shirt; later registrations may rely on extras available on race day.

Registration opens 05/13/2026 and closes 06/13/2026. The published registration fee is $47.00. A portion of each registration benefits Freshwater Land Trust. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
