Kettlebell Kountdown - Pelham, Alabama

The Kettlebell Kountdown is an elimination-format 50K held at Oak Mountain State Park. The race consists of repeated one-mile loops; competitors must carry a 20-pound kettlebell for the entire loop with at least one hand in contact at all times. Each loop has a set time limit that decreases as the competition progresses; failure to complete a lap within its time limit results in elimination and the runner may not re-enter the course. Only competitors who complete lap 31 receive an official finisher’s medal and are eligible for division awards.

Awards are given in two divisions, male and female; the top three finishers in each division receive custom kettlebell trophies: first place receives a 20 lb kettlebell, second place a 15 lb kettlebell, and third place a 10 lb kettlebell. The organizers provide a kettlebell for each runner and personal kettlebells are not permitted. All participants must be 18 or older.

Crew may assist runners only in the start/finish area between laps; no pacers or on-course assistance are allowed. Water and light snacks will be available on site and runners may set up personal aid in the start/finish area. There is no early packet pickup; race-day packet pickup occurs at the Lakeside Pavilion near the south trailhead. Entries are nonrefundable but may be transferred to another runner.
