About the race
Conquer the Cave 5K is a road and cave run held near Woodville, Alabama. The course begins in a valley with mountains and fields visible in the background and reaches the 1.9 mile mark where runners enter a cave at Cathedral Caverns State Park. The cave section is a 0.6 mile out and back portion that is wide enough for two way traffic. At the turnaround point runners receive a glow stick and decorative lighting along the cave route will be on throughout the cave segment.
The event uses multiple waves of runners, each limited to 200 participants, with waves sent at 30 minute intervals. Participants must remain in their assigned wave; runners who do not run in their registered wave will not receive a finishing time.
Packet pickup is available at RunningLane, 2407 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL 35801, on Friday September 18 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday September 19 from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM. There is additional packet pickup at the race site on Sunday from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Organizers ask participants to arrive one hour before their assigned wave. Average race day temperatures are listed as a low of 54 F and a high of 79 F; inside the cave the year round temperature is about 58 F.
