Event Overview

Conquer the Cave is a running event located in Woodville, Alabama, at Cathedral Caverns State Park. The course is a 5K distance that begins in a valley surrounded by mountain and field views. Participants follow the route through open scenery before transitioning into a subterranean environment.

The Course

The race route features a specific section within a large cave system. At the 1.9-mile mark, the course enters the cave for a 0.6-mile out and back segment. This underground path is wide enough for two-way traffic and is illuminated with decorative lighting. At the designated turnaround point inside the cave, participants receive a glow stick.

Environment and Logistics

Weather conditions in the area typically range from 54°F to 79°F during this time of year. Inside the cave, the temperature remains constant at 58°F regardless of the outside conditions. To manage the number of participants within the cave, the event uses a wave start system.
