Cathedral Caverns Trail Run

Cathedral Caverns Trail Run is a trail event at Cathedral Caverns State Park, 637 Cave Rd, Woodville, AL. The event offers two race distances:

• 15K
• 5K

The courses begin in a valley with surrounding rock formations and fields. The final 1.2 miles of both races include an out-and-back cave segment of 0.6 miles each way that is wide enough for two-way traffic; runners pick up a glow stick at the turnaround and the cave features decorative lighting. The 5K route includes an initial 0.9 mile section on gravel or paved road before entering single-track trail to allow runners to spread out.

Aid stations are placed on course and include water, Gatorade, Coke, pretzels, M&M's and other items. The event is cupless; participants must carry a handheld bottle, pack, or reusable cup. A reusable cup is available for purchase at checkout for $5.

Each distance is capped at 300 runners. All registered participants receive a shirt and a finisher medal. Cutoffs are 1 hour 15 minutes for the 5K (24:00 min/mi) and 2 hours 30 minutes for the 15K (16:40 min/mi); these are enforced because cave tours start after the race. Average race day temperatures are listed as a low of 44 F and a high of 67 F, with a year-round cave temperature near 58 F.
