Cathedral Caverns Trail Run

The event takes place at Cathedral Caverns State Park in Woodville, AL. It offers two trail distances:

  • 15K
  • 5K

The courses begin in a valley with visible mountains and fields. The 5K route includes an initial 0.9 mile section on gravel or paved road before entering single track. The final 1.2 miles of both distances run through the cave as an out and back 0.6 mile segment that is wide enough for two way traffic. Runners pick up a glow stick at the turnaround point and decorative lighting will be on in the cave.

Aid stations are located on course and include water, Gatorade, Coke, pretzels, M&M's and other items. This is a cupless event; participants must use a handheld bottle, pack, or reusable cup. A RunningLane reusable cup is available for purchase for five dollars.

Average outdoor race day temperatures are listed as a low of 44F and a high of 67F. Inside the cave the year round temperature is about 58F. Entry for each race is capped at 300 runners. Cutoffs are 1 hour 15 minutes for the 5K and 2 hours 30 minutes for the 15K; these cutoffs relate to subsequent cave tours and schedule constraints.

Packet pickup is available at the Running Lane store and on race day under the tent in the park parking area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
