Overview

The Frozen Yeti is a trail running event held at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Alabama. It serves as the first race in the Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series. The event provides an opportunity for runners to participate in trail races during the winter months, with the course featuring bluff views, mountain scenery, creek crossings, and waterfalls.

Distances and Course Information

Participants can choose between two race distances:

  • 5 Miler
  • 10 Miler

The courses are designed to help runners increase their distance throughout the winter season. Aid stations are located along the route and are stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, soda, energy gels, and various snacks such as pretzels, candies, and granola bars.

Event Logistics

This is a cupless race to reduce waste. Runners are required to carry their own handheld bottle, hydration pack, or reusable cup. Reusable cups are available for purchase during the registration process for those who do not have one. Registration is capped at 400 participants. All runners receive a short sleeve tri-blend t-shirt and a finisher award.

Location and Atmosphere

The race takes place at 5105 Nolen Ave SE, Huntsville, AL. The average winter temperatures in the area typically range from lows of 25F-35F to highs of 45F-55F. After finishing the race, participants are provided with pizza at the finish line. The event maintains loose cutoffs to encourage participation, though participants in the long distance series are suggested to maintain a pace of at least 17 minutes per mile.
