Overview
The Frozen Trash Panda is a winter trail running event held at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Alabama. As the second race in the Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series, it offers participants the opportunity to run through mountain scenery featuring bluff views, creek crossings, and waterfalls. The event is designed to help runners maintain their fitness and increase race distances during the winter months.
Distances
Participants can choose between two race distances:
- 10 km
- 1/2 Marathon (Approximately 21.1 km)
Course Details
The race takes place on the trails of Monte Sano Mountain. The course includes several aid stations stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, soda, energy gels, and various snacks such as pretzels and granola bars. This event is designated as a cupless race to reduce waste; runners must carry their own handheld bottle, hydration pack, or reusable cup. The event has a registration cap of 400 runners. For the longer distance, there is a suggested pace of 15 minutes per mile, with a formal cutoff set at 17 minutes per mile.
Logistics
All participants receive a short-sleeve tri-blend t-shirt and a finisher award. Packet pickup is available the day before the event at a local running store in Huntsville or on the morning of the race at the park. Post-race food includes pizza provided at the finish line.
