Chupacabra Trail Race - August 22, 2026
The Chupacabra Trail Race is the fourth event in the Wild Thangs Trail Series, held at Monte Sano State Park, 5105 Nolen Ave SE, Huntsville, AL. The event offers both short and longer trail distances and includes course maps and elevation profiles for each distance.
Distances
- Half Marathon - trail distance with course map and elevation profile
- 10K - trail distance with course map and elevation profile
The field is capped at 400 runners. All participants in the Chupacabra 10K and Half Marathon receive a short sleeve tri-blend race shirt (same shirt used across the series) and a finisher award. Packet pickup is available the day before at RunningLane (2407 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL) and on race morning.
Aid stations are located on course and supply water, Gatorade, Coke, pretzels, M&M's and granola bars. This is a cupless race; runners must carry a hand-held bottle, pack, or reusable cup. A RunningLane reusable cup is available for purchase at checkout for $5.
The course is described as spectator friendly with bluff views, mountain scenery, creek crossings and waterfalls. Organizers state there are very loose cutoffs, with a 17 minute per mile cutoff for Long Series participants; they note that participants who cannot maintain roughly 15 minute miles may prefer the Short Series.
