Chupacabra Trail Race : Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, AL

The Chupacabra Trail Race is the fourth event in the Wild Thangs Trail Series and is held at Monte Sano State Park, 5105 Nolen Ave SE, Huntsville, AL 35801. The event offers two distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • 10K

The field is capped at 400 runners. All registrants for the Chupacabra distances receive a short sleeve tri-blend race shirt (same shirt across the series) and a finisher award. Course maps and elevation profiles are available for both distances.

The trail courses are described as spectator friendly and feature bluff views, mountain scenery, creek crossings, and waterfalls. Several aid stations are located on course offering water, Gatorade, coke, pretzels, M&M's, granola bars and similar items.

This is a cupless race; participants must carry a hand held bottle, pack, or reusable cup. A reusable cup is available for purchase at checkout for $5. Packet pickup is provided at RunningLane (2407 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL 35801) on the Friday before the race from 12:00–5:00 PM, and packets may also be picked up race morning from 6:00 AM–6:45 AM.

There are very loose cutoffs; Long Series participants should note a 17 minute per mile cutoff. Registration closes Wed, Aug 19 at 11:59 PM CT and there are no refunds, deferrals, credits, or transfers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
