Chupacabra Trail Race

Chupacabra Trail Race is scheduled for August 22, 2026 at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Alabama. It is the fourth race in the Wild Thangs Trail Series, a set of four trail events that run from June through August. The event offers the following distances:

  • Half marathon
  • 10K

The course is described as spectator friendly with bluff views, mountain scenery, creek crossings and waterfalls. Several aid stations will be located on course and will offer water, Gatorade, coke, pretzels, M&M's, granola bars and similar items. The event is a cupless race; participants must bring a handheld bottle, pack or reusable cup. A RunningLane reusable cup is available for purchase at registration for $5. Marco's Pizza is listed as a series sponsor and pizza will be available at the finish of each race.

The race is capped at 400 runners. All participants in the Chupacabra 10K and half marathon receive a short sleeve tri-blend shirt and a finisher award; the shirt design is the same across the series. Packet pickup is available at RunningLane in Huntsville the day before each race and there is limited pickup the morning of the race. Cutoffs are very loose with a suggested pace guideline and a 17 minute per mile cutoff for Long Series participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
