Chupacabra Trail Race - Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, AL
Chupacabra Trail Race is the fourth event in the Wild Thangs Trail Series, held at Monte Sano State Park, 5105 Nolen Ave SE, Huntsville, AL. The event offers two race distances and is part of a four-race summer series.

The race field is capped at 400 runners. All participants receive a short-sleeve tri-blend t-shirt (the same design for the entire series) and a finisher award. Packet pickup is at RunningLane, 2407 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL, on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Packets may also be picked up the morning of the race from 6:00 am to 6:45 am.
Courses are described as spectator friendly and feature bluff views, mountain scenery, creek crossings and waterfalls. Several aid stations on course offer water, Gatorade, coke, pretzels, M&M's, granola bars and similar items. Marco's Pizza is listed as a series sponsor and provides pizza at the finish line.
This is a cupless race; runners must carry a handheld bottle, pack, or reusable cup. A RunningLane reusable cup is available for purchase at checkout for $5. Registration closes Wednesday, August 19 at 11:59 pm CT. There are no refunds, deferrals, credits or transfers. Organizers note loose cutoffs overall, with a 17 minute per mile cutoff for Long Series participants and a suggestion that those unable to maintain 15 minute miles consider the Short Series. In severe weather the start may be delayed to avoid lightning; extended severe weather may cause cancellation. Average summer temperatures for Huntsville are lows 65-75F and highs 85-95F.
