Both the 50 Miler and the 50K are point-to-point trail races on single-track, forest service roads, and the Sylaward Trails. The 50 Miler runs from Hwy 77 (Porter’s Gap) to Sylaward Trail (Lake Howard), including roughly 31 miles of single-track, about 6 miles of forest roads, and about 12 miles on Sylaward Trails. The 50 Miler lists approximately 5,171 feet of elevation gain. The 50K follows the same course for the first 19 miles, then uses forest service roads and Sylaward Trails to finish at Lake Howard.

Logistics, aid, and rules

Time limits are 16 hours for the 50 Miler and 10 hours for the 50K. Packet pickup is scheduled at Lake Howard the day before the race and on race morning at the Porter’s Gap trailhead. Bus transportation will run from Lake Howard to Porter’s Gap; bus tickets are available for a fee. Parking at the start is limited. Restrooms are available at the start and finish. Aid stations are located along the course, including Pinnacle (7 miles), Powerline (13 miles), Bulls Gap (19 miles), Trammel (31 miles), Bill’s Creek Loop, and the finish. Results will be posted online. The event has no refunds, no race day registration, no entry transfers, and no deferrals. Strollers, animals, bicycles, and unentered runners are not allowed; pets must be kept at least 50 feet from aid stations and start/finish areas.
