Event overview

The Russell Forest Run takes place on February 28, 2026 at Russell Crossroads near Lake Martin, Alabama. The event includes two races:

  • 10K
  • 5K

Both races use a certified course that runs on sand, clay, and gravel roads. The route starts at Russell Crossroads, passes near Kob’s Knob, climbs to an area called Heaven (Heaven Hill), and returns to a finish near The Stables at Russell Crossroads. The finish area hosts a post-race gathering with a Grits Bar and live music. Pets are not allowed on the course.

Logistics and purpose

Packet pickup is held at the Discovery Center at Russell Crossroads (111 Benson Mill Road, Alexander City, AL) on the days before and the day of the event. The race location is south of Alexander City on Alabama State Highway 63, about 3 miles north of the Kowaliga Bridge. The event benefits the Alexander City Schools Education Foundation; over the past years the run has donated close to $150,000, including a recent $14,000 donation from Russell Lands. Trail runs nearby

Pinhoti 100 is a rugged 100 mile trail through Alabama's Talladega National Forest with mostly single track and a 32 hour cutoff. A Western States qualifier, it finishes at Sylaward Trail Head and awards buckles to finishers.

Run scenic single track around Lake Martin near Alexander City, AL the first weekend of April 2026. Choose 100 mile, 50 mile, 50K or 27 mile distances on 25 mile loops with full aid station support; register by March 31.

Take on the Pinhoti Trail at the 10th annual Rebecca Mountain races in Sylacauga, AL. Choose the 50 Miler or 50K point to point from Porter's Gap to Lake Howard for a scenic, rugged trail challenge.
