Lake Martin 50/50
The Lake Martin 50/50 is an ultramarathon held on the private Russell Forest Trail System at Russell Lands near Lake Martin in Alexander City, Alabama. The event uses a 25.09 mile loop that runs along the lake shore and through rolling forested terrain.
The course is described as runnable and generally non-technical for regional trail standards, but runners should watch for roots and sections with fist sized granite. Each 25.09 mile loop gains over 3,000 feet of elevation. Most climbs are short and under 100 feet, while the most sustained climb is the half mile ascent known as Heaven Hill, which gains about 200 feet. The course layout divides each full lap into an 18.6 mile North Loop and a 6.4 mile South Loop, with a cabin aid station located between the sections.
Distances
- 50 Mile: two laps of the 25.09 mile loop
- 50K: one 25.09 mile lap plus a repeat of the 6.4 mile South Loop
Aid stations appear four times per 25 mile loop, with two stops at the Heaven Hill Aid Station and two at the Cabin Aid Station. Stations provide water, electrolytes, grab and go snacks, and hot food. A medic will be present at the start/finish area. The race base address is 17 Russell Farms Road, Alexander City, AL; GPS coordinates 32.764355, -85.945177. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
