Lake Martin 50/50, Alexander City AL
The Lake Martin 50/50 is a trail ultramarathon held on the private Russell Forest Trail System at Russell Lands along the shores of Lake Martin. The event is organized by Southeastern Trail Runs and uses a 25.09 mile loop as its primary course.
Distances
- 50 Miler: two full laps of the 25.09 mile course.
- 50K: one full 25.09 mile lap plus a repeat of the 6.4 mile South Loop.
Course and terrain are described as runnable and generally non-technical by regional standards, but runners should watch for roots and sections with fist-sized granite. Each 25.09 mile loop contains over 3,000 feet of elevation gain. Most hills are short, under 100 feet, while the main climb, called Heaven Hill, is about a half mile and gains roughly 200 feet. The course is composed of an 18.6 mile North Loop and a 6.4 mile South Loop, with a Cabin Aid Station between those sections.
Aid and support include four aid station stops per full loop, with two stops at Heaven Hill and two at The Cabin Aid Station. Aid stations will provide water, electrolytes, grab and go snacks, and hot food. A medic will be present at the start/finish. Race shirts must be ordered by March 14 to guarantee availability.
