Skunk Ape Trail Run

The Skunk Ape Trail Run is held at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, AL and serves as the third race in the Wild Thangs Trail Series. The event offers two trail race distances and is limited to 400 runners.

Courses include bluff views and mountain scenery, with creek crossings and waterfalls on route. Several aid stations are provided with water, Gatorade, cola, pretzels, M&M's, granola bars and similar items. The event is organized as a cupless race; runners must use a handheld bottle, pack, or reusable cup. A reusable cup is available for purchase at checkout for $5.

Participants receive a short sleeve tri-blend t-shirt and a finisher award; the same shirt is used across the series. Age group categories are 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. Organizers state there will be very loose cutoffs overall, with a 17 minute per mile cutoff for Long Series participants and a recommendation that those unable to maintain 15 minute miles consider the Short Series.
