Skunk Ape Trail Run : Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, AL

Skunk Ape is a trail race held at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Alabama. The event offers two course options:

  • 5 Mile
  • 10 Mile

This race is the third event in the Wild Thangs Trail Series, a four-race series that runs from June through August. The courses include bluff views, mountain scenery, creek crossings, and waterfalls. Several aid stations on course provide water, Gatorade, coke, pretzels, M&M's, granola bars and similar items.

The event is a cupless race; participants must carry a handheld bottle, pack, or reusable cup. A RunningLane reusable cup is available for purchase at checkout for $5. All runners who register for the Skunk Ape distances receive a short sleeve tri-blend t-shirt and a finisher award; the shirt design is the same across the series. The field is capped at 400 runners.

Packet pickup is handled by RunningLane at 2407 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL, with scheduled pickup days the Friday before each race. Organizers note very loose course cutoffs and recommend that runners who cannot maintain roughly 15 minute miles consider shorter distances; a 17 minute per mile cutoff applies for Long Series participants. There are no refunds, deferrals, credits, or transfers, and leftover shirts are donated. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
