Run into the night on an unmarked rough route to Chapelfell Top in the Silent Night Race. This 6.6 km out and back with 370 m of climb requires navigation, strict kit and pre entry, making it a real test for experienced fell runners.

On 20 December take on the Beyond the Lune Skyline Winter Ultra, a 65 km loop from Kirkby Lonsdale climbing seven summits and finishing with beer or mulled wine and sourdough pizza. Tough, scenic and hugely satisfying.

Join Beyond the Lune Winter Editions for festive trail runs from The Royal Barn in Kirkby Lonsdale, with 5 km, 10 km and 20 km routes over rivers, footpaths and fells. Hot drinks, treats and a finisher beer add extra festive cheer.

Celebrate the season at Chopwell Woods on 21 December 2025 with festive trail routes for family 1 mile, 4 mile and 8 mile runners through atmospheric woodland. Finishers get medals and mince pies and canicross is welcome.

Join Wharfedale Harriers on 21 December for The Stoop, an 8 km fell race at Penistone Hill Country Park with about 250 m ascent. Expect a festive vibe with a free Santa hat, post race tea and a Curly Wurly, and team entries welcome.

Join the Santa Dash on 21 December for a festive 4 mile trail run around Horwich, Bolton, with medals for finishers and prizes for best fancy dress. Dress up, enjoy spot prizes and festive fun for all abilities.

Take on Orrest Sun Up in Windermere on Sun 21 Dec 2025, a bracing one mile climb to Orrest Head with stunning Lake District views. Entry on the day from The Phoenix Centre is £5 with donations supporting local community charities.

Celebrate Boxing Day with the Whinberry Naze fell race in Rawtenstall, a punchy 4 mile course with 229 m climb across Pennine fells. Enter on the day for a festive atmosphere, fancy dress prizes and a friendly post race vibe.

Take on the classic Wansfell fell race in Ambleside on 27 December 2025, a scenic out and back to the rocky summit. Expect steep stone steps, open fell running and a warm finish at Force Cafe, with pre entry and mandatory kit required.

Run a moonlit 15 km through Kielder Forest, climbing to the summit of Deadwater Fell before returning along forest tracks and mountain bike trails. This night race opens the Shadowlands Race Series with night prizes and series points.

Tackle the Booze Run in Arkengarthdale on 28 December, a scenic 9 km fell race through wintry dales. Enjoy mince pies and a warming drink at the Booze checkpoint and celebrate back at The Red Lion pub.

Bilberry Fields Winter is a lively 7.4 km fell race with about 371 m of climb through the South West Pennines near Todmorden. Race headquarters is the Hare and Hounds pub, with pre entry or entry on the day and post race refreshments.

Ring in the New Year with the Daleside Auld Lang Syne fell race at Penistone Hill on 31 December. A muddy 6.7 mile loop with about 1000 ft of ascent, capped entries and a bottle of Daleside beer included.

January 2026

Kick off the New Year at Clowbridge 5k NYD! Enjoy a friendly two lap route around the reservoir with marshals, prizes and funds raised for local causes, open to ages 11 and up.

Nine Standards is a mountain race on the hills above Kirkby Stephen, starting from the market square and offering a scenic but testing 8 mile route with about 549 m of climb. Expect rugged paths, dramatic views and a true fell race experien..

The St Johns Fell Race will take place in Saint John's on Thursday 1 January 2026. You can run 5 kilometers.

Take part in the Deepdale Dash, a 5 mile trail fundraiser for St Teresa's Hospice in Barnard Castle on 3 January 2026. Enjoy a scenic riverside route through woods and a nature reserve with on course refreshments and a race memento.

Take on the Osprey Trail Run under the stars in Kielder Forest, a 22 km night trail across forest tracks and mountain bike trails. Race 2 of the Shadowlands series offers scenic, challenging off road running with prizes on the night.
