Newlands Memorial Race

The Newlands Memorial Race is scheduled for 18 April 2026 at Newlands Adventure Centre, Stair, Keswick, CA12 5UF. The main race is a Category AM course of 11.5 miles (about 18.5 km) with approximately 3609 ft (1100 m) of climb. The event was formerly known as the Anniversary Waltz and was renamed the Newlands Memorial Race in 2019.

Pre-entry is required and the field is limited to 500 runners. The minimum age for the race is 18. Pre-entry fees are listed at £15 for members and £18 for non-members. The race is a counter in the Pete Bland Sports/inov-8 Lakes Grand Prix and receives partial sponsorship from Pete Bland Sports.

Registration takes place at Newlands Adventure Centre. Parking is managed in a nearby field with a £5 cash charge per car; bike parking is available without charge and the parking area is about 400 m from registration. A traditional post-race half pint of beer, tea and coffee is provided; hot food is available as an optional extra with entry. Tea, coffee and cakes are available for donations to race charities and participants are encouraged to bring a reusable cup for post-race water.

The event holds a Permit and associated insurance through the Fell Runners Association. A full kit check is carried out at registration; required kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. The route includes multiple summit checkpoints along the Newlands ridge and designated cut-offs; runners who retire must report to a marshal and return to the start to notify the race organiser.
