Newlands Memorial and Teenager with Altitude

The Newlands Memorial and Teenager with Altitude are fell running events held in the Newlands Valley, starting from the Newlands Activity Centre in Stair, near Keswick. These races were originally conceived and organised by Steve and Wynn Cliff. All race profits are donated to the local community and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Participants can choose between two distinct routes:

  • Newlands Memorial Race: A category AM race covering 11.5 miles (18.5 km) with 3,609 feet (1,100 m) of elevation gain. This event is limited to 500 participants and is a counter in the Pete Bland Sports/inov-8 Lakes Grand Prix.
  • Teenager with Altitude: A category AL race covering 15.3 miles (24.7 km) with 7,546 feet (2,300 m) of elevation gain. This event is limited to 350 participants.

Registration takes place at the Newlands Activity Centre. The event uses Sportident dibbers for electronic timing, and participants receive a half pint of beer, tea, or coffee after the race. Post-race food is available as an optional extra during the entry process.

Parking is available in a field approximately 400 m from the registration area for a cash fee, which is provided to the landowner. Bicycle parking is provided free of charge. Runners are encouraged to bring their own cups for water to reduce waste and support the event's charitable goals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
