Grasmere Gallop : 42 km

The Grasmere Gallop is a 42 km fully waymarked trail race that loops around Grasmere and neighbouring valleys. The route passes Alcock Tarn, the Loughrigg summit, Rydal caves, Great Langdale Valley and Easedale Tarn. Total ascent is approximately 1905 metres.

There are cold drinks available on the course at about mile 4 and mile 11, and a checkpoint with drinks and snacks at about mile 17. The event includes tracker hire so family and friends can follow a runner’s progress. Finishers receive a locally made Langdale slate medal and cake at the finish line.

Cut-offs are enforced on the course: runners must pass the Stickle Tarn checkpoint within 6 hours 15 minutes, and the final cut-off for the event is 9 hours. Runners who miss a cut-off will be transported back to the finish.

All competitors must carry the mandatory kit list. Items are checked at registration and there will be post-race spot checks; failure to carry the full mandatory kit results in disqualification. Mandatory items include a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, hat and gloves (a buff is acceptable), a fully charged mobile phone, the provided tracker, an emergency foil blanket or bivi bag, a basic first aid kit (including blister plasters and sterile dressing and tape), a whistle, and sufficient food and drink. A GPX file of the route is available to download. The event date is 31/05/2026 and the entry fee is £55. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
