The Maverick Lakes X-Trail 2026
The Maverick Lakes X-Trail is a one-day trail running event organised by Maverick Race in Grasmere, Lake District, on 19 September 2026. The route network runs across fells, glacial ribbon lakes and ancient woodlands, passing Easdale Tarn, Stickle Tarn, Pavey Ark, Harrison Stickle, Loughrigg Tarn, Rydal Head and sections of the Cumbria Way and Greater Langdale.
The event offers multiple graded routes with significant elevation gain and technical terrain, including steep rocky climbs and technical descents. Outposts provide sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink on the longer routes; there is no outpost on the Short route. The event supports Fix the Fells with £1 from every entry. Dogs are not permitted due to the technical terrain. Venue facilities include free parking, fully marked courses, timing and online results, event photography, bag drop and a metal finisher medal. GPS route tracking is provided on the Ultra and long routes. The organiser requests participants bring a reusable cup as outposts aim to be cup free.
Mandatory equipment is specified by route. For the 50k Ultra and Marathon this includes waterproof jacket and trousers, additional warm layer, phone, 800 Calories, minimum 1 litre water, first aid items, foil blanket, hat or buff, gloves and headtorch with spare batteries. Half Marathon and Middle routes have a shorter mandatory kit list that includes a waterproof jacket, phone, food, water, foil blanket, whistle and GPX of the route.
