The Maverick Lakes X-Trail 2026

The Maverick Lakes X-Trail takes place on Saturday 19 September 2026 at Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show in the Lake District. The route starts in Grasmere and finishes back at the showground after a series of fell sections and lakeside trails.

The main route follows a rugged climb towards Easdale Tarn and then to Stickle Tarn, set beneath Pavey Ark and Harrison Stickle. Runners return along the Cumbria Way towards Greater Langdale, pass near Loughrigg Tarn through ancient woodland, and then climb to Rydal Head and the Fairfield Horseshoe before a technical descent back to the venue.

Available routes and their elevation gains:

  • 50k Ultra: 52 km, +2858 m
  • Marathon: 43 km, +2367 m
  • Half Marathon: 25 km, +1131 m
  • Middle: 14 km, +617 m
  • Short: 9 km, +386 m

Outpost and support information is provided: the 50k Ultra has four outposts, the Marathon three, the Half Marathon two, and there are no outposts on the Middle or Short routes. Outposts offer snack items, gels and electrolyte drink and operate as a top-up; there are no pre-filled cups so runners should bring a reusable cup or bottle. GPS route files are available and there is GPS route tracking on the ultra and long routes. The 50k Ultra and Marathon have cut-off points with an overall allowed time of 11 hours.

The event supports Fix the Fells with one pound from every entry. Mandatory safety and kit lists vary by route, with more extensive kit required for the 50k Ultra and Marathon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
