The Maverick Lakes X-Trail 2026

The event takes place at Grasmere Lakeland Sports & Shows and explores trails in the Lake District. The course starts in Grasmere and runs over fells and through ancient woodlands to Easdale Tarn, Stickle Tarn near Pavey Ark and Harrison Stickle, then along the Cumbria Way toward Greater Langdale and Loughrigg Tarn. A final climb reaches Rydal Head and the Fairfield Horseshoe before a technical descent back to the venue.

There are five route options with varied distance and elevation. Outposts provide food and drink on the longer routes; there are no outposts on the Middle and Short routes. The 50k Ultra and Marathon have timed cut-off checkpoints for safety and allow 11 hours to complete the course. The event is not dog friendly.

The organiser requests a plastic free approach at outposts. Runners must carry a reusable cup or bottle for water fills, as pre-filled cups will not be provided. A mandatory kit list applies to different routes and includes waterproof layers, minimum food and water, emergency items and a GPX of the route. Headphones are strongly discouraged.

The event supports Fix the Fells with one pound from every entry directed to trail maintenance. Additional services at the venue include parking, course marking, timing, event photography and a finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
