The Maverick Lakes X-Trail 2026

The Maverick Lakes X-Trail is a one-day trail running event in the Lake District, based at Grasmere Lakeland Sports & Shows, Stock Lane, Grasmere, Ambleside LA22 9SL on 19 September 2026. The route network uses local fells, tarns and sections of the Cumbria Way.

The event offers five route options with the following distances and approximate elevation gains:

  • 52 km +2858 m
  • 43 km +2367 m
  • 25 km +1131 m
  • 14 km +617 m
  • 9 km +386 m

Routes start in Grasmere and pass features such as Easdale Tarn, Stickle Tarn, Pavey Ark, Harrison Stickle, Greater Langdale, Loughrigg Tarn, Rydal Head and the Fairfield Horseshoe. Terrain includes steep rocky climbs and technical descents. The Short route has no outpost. The Half Marathon, Marathon and Ultra routes have outposts at specified points; outposts offer fruit, cake, crisps, gels and electrolyte drink but not pre-filled cups. Participants should carry a reusable cup or bottle.

Cut-off points and times apply to the 50k Ultra and Marathon; the maximum allowed time for those routes is eleven hours. Mandatory kit lists vary by route and include waterproofs, minimum food and water, a mobile phone and safety items such as a foil blanket; headtorch and spare batteries are required for the longest routes.

The event donates £1 from every entry to Fix the Fells. Facilities include free parking, course marking, timing, photography, bag drop and a metal finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
