The Maverick Lakes X-Trail 2026

This trail running event takes place on September 19, 2026, in the Lake District. The start and finish location is the Grasmere Lakeland Sports & Show field. The organizer is Maverick Race.

Participants can choose from five different routes:

  • 50k Ultra: 52 km with 2858 m of elevation gain.
  • Marathon: 43 km with 2367 m of elevation gain.
  • Half Marathon: 25 km with 1131 m of elevation gain.
  • Middle: 14 km with 617 m of elevation gain.
  • Short: 9 km with 386 m of elevation gain.

The course is a circular route starting in Grasmere. It passes landmarks such as Easdale Tarn and Stickle Tarn, before heading towards Greater Langdale and Loughrigg Tarn. All routes feature a final climb to Rydal Head on the Fairfield Horseshoe before a technical descent back to the venue. The terrain includes steep climbs and technical descents.

The event has cut-off times for the 50k Ultra and Marathon routes for safety. There are aid stations (outposts) on the longer routes, but the Middle and Short routes have no outpost. Participants must carry specific mandatory items, which vary by distance. These include a waterproof jacket, a mobile phone, food, water, and a reusable cup. The event aims to be plastic-free at aid stations.

Parking at the venue is free. Services include a marked course, timing, online results, event photography, a bag drop area, and a finisher's medal for all participants. GPS route tracking is provided for the Ultra and Marathon distances. A donation from each entry goes to the Fix the Fells trail maintenance charity.
