The Maverick Lakes X-Trail 2026

The Maverick Lakes X-Trail takes place at Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Shows in Ambleside, Cumbria, on 19 September 2026. The route starts in Grasmere and passes Easdale Tarn and Stickle Tarn, follows sections of the Cumbria Way toward Greater Langdale and Loughrigg Tarn, then climbs to Rydal Head and the Fairfield Horseshoe before returning to the venue.

Terrain is varied mountain trail with steep rocky climbs and technical descents. The short route has no outpost. The event is not dog friendly. Organiser is Maverick Race and one pound from every entry is donated to Fix the Fells to support trail maintenance.

Outposts and race services: the ultra and marathon have multiple outposts; the half marathon has two; middle and short routes have none. Outposts provide sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink and are intended as a top-up to what participants carry. The event offers fully marked courses, electronic timing, online results, event photography, bag drop and free parking. GPS route files are provided for several routes.

Safety and kit: cut off points and times apply to the 50k and marathon and are non-negotiable. Mandatory kit requirements vary by distance; required items for longer routes include a waterproof jacket and trousers, additional warm layer, mobile phone, 800 calories of food, minimum 1 litre water, foil blanket, and GPX of the route. Half and middle routes have a reduced mandatory kit list including waterproof jacket, phone, energy, water, whistle and GPX. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
