Hartsop Hop

The Hartsop Hop is the second edition of a fell event based at Hartsop in Patterdale, Cumbria. The course measures 19.5 km (about 12.15 miles) with 1370 m (4495 ft) of ascent. The route starts and finishes at the sheep pens above Hartsop.

The course features several checkpoints and early route choice options. Rest Dodd is the first checkpoint; how competitors reach it is left to individual route choice. CP2 sits north-east of Rampsgill Head on the col beneath High Raise and must be reached within 70 minutes. If marshals direct a competitor to retire, the instructed return route passes to the north of The Knott and down by Hayeswater.

A fast descent leads to Kidsty Howes, followed by a steep drop to Haweswater and a short climb to The Rigg at CP3. The path above Haweswater and the ascent up Nan Bield Pass precede Lingmell End at CP4. The route then approaches the final checkpoint, CP5 on Gray Crag. The final descent to the finish is steep; the direct line is very steep and requires care, while an alternative path skirts the outcrops to the north at 500 m before a final track back to the sheep pens.

Entries open 3 November 2025 and close 20 August 2026. Minimum age is 18. The published entry fee is £13.00. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
