Borrowdale Fell Race

Borrowdale Fell Race is a long fell race of 17 miles with approximately 6500 feet of ascent (about 27 km, 2000 m). The route starts and finishes at the Scafell Hotel in Rosthwaite and visits mountain checkpoints including Bessy Boot, Esk Hause, Scafell Pike, Styhead, Great Gable, Honister Hause and Dalehead.

Entry is limited to 350 competitors. Minimum age for the event is 18. Entries open 15 June 2026 and close 31 July 2026. Runners who have not previously completed this race must have completed at least two different category A or B long fell races or two different category A medium fell races since 1 January 2024 to be eligible. No entries are accepted on the day.

Whatever the weather, runners must carry waterproof full body cover with a hood and taped seams, a hat, gloves, a map suitable for navigating the route, a compass, a whistle and emergency food. The use of GPS devices for navigation during the race is prohibited. The checkpoint at Styhead stretcher box closes at 2.20 pm and the Honister Hause checkpoint closes at 3.30 pm. A low cost and informal summer fell race in Great Langdale featuring an 8 km route to the summit of Pike of Blisco and an unconventional beer prizegiving.

An uphill only 6 km race with 850 m of ascent from Patterdale to Swirral Edge, including steep paths, a Red Tarn Basin section and easy scrambling to a trig point. Held as part of the Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra weekend.

A technical 28 km sky race around the Helvellyn Massif with 2700 m ascent, pre selection entry and mandatory rock climbing experience. The event includes a marked course, GPS tracking, safety team and a post race meal.

A 57 km, 3700 m ascent mountain race around Helvellyn near Patterdale on 18 July 2026. The course is marked and includes exposed ridges such as Striding Edge, Swirral Edge and Long Stile Edge and carries ITRA UTMB points.
