The Rydal Round takes place on Thursday 30th July 2026 as the opening event for Ambleside Sports. The venue is Rydal Park, Ambleside. The event is listed in category AM.

The course is given as 14.5 km / 9m with a climb of 915 m / 3002 ft. Minimum age is 18. Teams are allowed.

Skills and experience are recorded as ER, LK, NS. Competitors must carry full kit in accordance with FRA rules. The FRA do not allow the use of certain GPS functions for navigation in their races.

Entry is on the day only; there is no pre-entry. Participants pay admission to the sports and the race is free.

Checkpoints on the route are: CP1 Nab Scar stile – GR 356071 (cut off here to protect fell top marshals at later checkpoints; cut off may be relaxed in fair weather) CP2 Fairfield Summit – GR 358118 CP3 High Pike summit (East side of wall) – GR 374088

Runners must stay to the east (left) of the wall after the final wall gap a few hundred metres beyond Dove Crag. Climbing walls after this point is not allowed. The course will be marked coming out of the sports field to the coffin track and from the last field after Low Sweden Bridge to the coffin track.

Ambleside Sports includes a BOFRA fell race on 30 July 2026 at Rydal Park. The course is 1.70 miles with 800 feet of climb through bracken to a rocky summit and includes senior and junior routes.

A 17 mile Borrowdale fell race with about 2000 m ascent, starting and finishing in Rosthwaite, limited to 350 runners and requiring prior fell-race experience.

A fell race on Farleton Knott with a 2.60 mile / 4.20 km route and 750 feet / 230 meters of climb. The course climbs the front of the fell, crosses the top and returns along the lower path; parking costs £3.

A short fell race at Steel End Farm, Thirlmere in the Lake District covering 4 km with 400 m of climb. Day entry is available free, minimum age 16, and the race carries FRA permit and UK Athletics insurance.
