British Athletics Uphill Only Trial Race
This event is the UK Athletics Senior and U20 uphill only trial for the European Off-Road Running Championships, held at Fitz Park, Keswick, and finishing on Skiddaw. The trial uses marked and marshalled mountain routes and includes a senior course and a U20 course.
Distances and ascent:
- Senior: 8.6 km and 945 m ascent
- U20: 4.2 km and 450 m ascent
Both races start within Fitz Park and follow a marked track through the park to Spooney Green Lane and the summit of Latrigg. Seniors then descend briefly to the Latrigg carpark before following the main tourist path to the Skiddaw summit. U20 athletes follow the same initial route then continue from Latrigg carpark to the 570 m contour. The senior race has a 60 minute cut off at the Jenkin Hill gate.
Entry and eligibility information is by pre-entry only. Race ages are Senior for those aged 20 years or older and U20 for athletes aged 16 to 19 years, relative to the end of 2026. Entry fees are listed for each category. Number collection and registration take place at the Fitz Park pavilion. Toilets and refreshments are available at the pavilion and parking is in local public car parks or on-street.
Mandatory hill safety kit is required. Competitors must carry a waterproof top with taped seams, hat and gloves, and be prepared to carry a thermal top, taped waterproof trousers and a survival bag. Organisers will specify required kit at registration. Failure to carry required kit may result in disqualification. Any athlete who retires must report to a race marshal and is responsible for their own descent. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
