NAV4 Lakes Mountain 40 is a mountain running event held on 18 April 2026 with start and finish at Askham Community Centre, on the edge of the National Park near Penrith. Entry opens 23 October 2025 and closes 13 April 2026. The entry fee is £55. Entry is limited to 100 starters; the entry system will accept up to 110 to allow for non-starters. Entry is managed through the SiEntries system. Local accommodation options are available; floor space in Askham Village Hall can be booked for Friday night for £10 per person. Campervans are welcome on Friday with a £10 overnight fee.

Route, checkpoints and kit

The main route is approximately 40 miles with about c.2500+m of ascent. A shorter option is 27 miles. The route crosses multiple Lakeland summits and paths and follows a figure-of-eight layout. Checkpoints include Loadpot, High Street, Angle Tarn, Patterdale, Grisedale Tarn, Helvellyn, Patterdale again, Place Fell and Martindale. Competent mountain running and navigation skills are required. Full bad-weather mountain running kit is mandatory; required items include waterproofs, thermal layers, warm hat and gloves, head torch, compass, map, food and drink, survival bag and whistle.
