NAV4 Lakes Mountain 40 is the 13th edition of a mountain running route in the Lake District. The route follows Lakeland ridge lines, trails and valleys and includes the summits of Loadpot, High Street, Helvellyn and Place Fell. The route is run as a figure of eight with checkpoints at Loadpot, High Street, Angle Tarn, Patterdale, Grisedale Tarn, Helvellyn, Patterdale (again), Place Fell and Martindale. Total distance is just over 40 miles with several thousand feet of ascent. A shorter route of 27 miles is also available.

Entry is restricted to competent mountain runners and the field is limited to 50 starters; the entry system will accept up to 55 entries to allow for non-starters. Entry fee is £55. Entries open on 23 October 2025 and close on 13 April 2026. Campervans are permitted on the Friday before the event for a £10 overnight fee.

Full bad weather mountain running kit is required. Expected items include waterproofs, insulated layers, warm hat and gloves, head torch, compass, map, food and drink, survival bag and whistle. Final kit requirements are confirmed in a pre-event information email. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
