The Coal Aston Gala Chase is an off-road trail race organised by Dronfield Running Club as part of the Coal Aston Gala. Distances offered include:

  • 4.7 miles / 7.5 km trail race
  • 1.4 miles family fun run (for children)

The main race has an entry limit of 300 and a minimum age of 16. The family fun run is for those aged 15 and under; children under 9 must run with an accompanying adult. Nominal prizes are awarded across senior and veteran categories for both men and women, with additional spot prizes. Finishers receive free cake.

Course, entries and rules

The route runs through the Moss Valley, following public rights of way across farmland and woodland. The course is entirely off road, with uneven ground, potential trip hazards, low branches, burrows and a small ford crossing. Elevation is about 600 ft (180 m). A GPX file and a Strava route are provided for the course. The route will be taped and marshalled at major turn points; a trail walker and some first aiders will be on course.

Entry fees are listed by affiliation status, with higher fees for on-the-day entries. Substitutions and pre-entry closing dates are published by the organiser.
