Coal Aston Gala Chase

Event Information

The Coal Aston Gala Chase is a summer trail race organized by Dronfield Running Club. It takes place at the Annual Coal Aston Summer Gala in the Moss Valley area of Derbyshire.

The Course

The main event is a 4.7-mile (7.5 km) trail race. The route follows public rights of way through farmland and woodland, featuring one small ford crossing where runners' feet will get wet. The course has a total climb of approximately 600ft (180m). The terrain is off-road and uneven, with potential hazards like trip hazards, burrows, and low-hanging branches. The course will be taped and marshaled at major turn points.

Additional Races

A 1.4-mile Family Fun Run is also held for participants aged 15 and under. Children under 9 must run with an adult.

Registration and Fees

Entry for the main trail race is limited to 300 participants, with a minimum age of 16. Pre-entry fees are £8 for UKA/TRA-affiliated runners and £10 for unaffiliated runners. On-the-day entry is available for £10 (affiliated) and £12 (unaffiliated). Entry for the Family Fun Run is £5 per child on the day only, with accompanying adults running for free. Substitutions are permitted until July 2nd. Pre-entries close at 6pm on July 3rd.

On the Day

The event starts at 12:30pm. Number collection is available at the gala from 11:00am to 12:15pm. The Family Fun Run starts at 12:20pm. Participants are encouraged to use public transport, walk, or park responsibly in the village, though some off-road parking is available at the gala site.

Prizes and Sponsors

Nominal prizes are awarded for various senior male and female age categories (including FV40/MV40 through FV70/MV70). Spot prizes are also given. Sponsors for the event include Bimble and Bolt, Accelerate UK, WM Lee (main sponsor), and Staves Estate Agents.

Other Details
