Whaley Waltz Fell Race

The Whaley Waltz is a fell race held in Whaley Bridge as part of the town carnival on the final Saturday in June. The event in 2026 takes place on Saturday 27 June and is organised as a BS fell race. Race headquarters is at Whaley Bridge Bowling Club (SK23 7HX), about a 5-minute walk from the start. The course is listed as 5.8 miles / 9.3 km with 274 m (899 ft) of climb. A new course layout was introduced from 2023 and a route map is provided by the organisers. The route includes a small twist near the end.

Entry, prizes and other information

Pre-entry and entry on the day are both available; listed entry fees are £12 for pre-entry and £14 for entry on the day. Minimum age for entry is 16. Teams of three are permitted. Prizes are offered to male and female runners for 1st to 3rd places, age-category prizes for V40, V50, V60 and V70, and a male and female team prize. Profits from the event are donated to local charities; in 2025 the event raised £1,587 for the Thomas Theyer Foundation and £200 for the Whaley Bridge Carnival. The organisers offer a £2 drinks voucher to participants who travel by public transport, walk, cycle, run to the start, or car share with four or more people.
