Wentworth Castle Gardens Trail Runs take place on Wednesday 10 June 2026 at Wentworth Castle Gardens, Park Drive, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S75 3EN. The event offers two distances:

  • 5 km - open to runners aged 11 and over.
  • 10 km - open to runners aged 15 and over.

Route maps are provided for both distances and the venue location is also given as What3words ///force.began.unions. The event is Canicross friendly - one controlled dog per runner is allowed and dogs must remain on a lead at all times.

Venue and logistics

Wentworth Castle Gardens is a Grade I registered landscape covering 500 acres, with parkland, ancient woodlands and historic landmarks such as the Rotunda, Serpentine Bridge and Stainborough Castle. Free on-site parking is available for participants and spectators. Live chip-timing is provided by Timing Up North and finishers receive a medal, a merchandise item and a snack and drink. A custom event T-shirt can be added to an entry for £12.00 during registration.

A night score event at The Railway Inn in Marple on Tuesday 27th January. Choose a 40, 60 or 75 minute course, use MapRun or a paper backup, and note late entries are not guaranteed a map.

Hoofstones Fell Race in Todmorden covers 8 miles with 425 m of climb across the Pennines, testing navigation skills. Race HQ is the Staff of Life pub where post race refreshments and prizes await; entries accepted pre entry or on the day.

Take on the Mickleden Straddle on 1 Feb 2026, a rugged 14.3 mile fell race across high moorland with navigation required and winter conditions possible. Pre entry and FRA kit checks mean this is a demanding winter race for fell runners.

Rombalds Stride is a scenic 23 mile trail across Rombalds Moor, Ilkley Moor and Otley Chevin from Guiseley, offering classic Yorkshire moorland views and a tough, hilly route. Spots are limited and the event fills fast.
