Blacka Moor Chase

The Blacka Moor Chase is a trail and fell race starting and finishing outside the Totley AC pavilion in Sheffield. The event is part of a series of local races and follows a fixed route through scenic moorlands and wooded areas. The course is classified as a BS category race under Fell Runners Association (FRA) rules.

The route consists of the following distance:

  • 6.7 km with approximately 270 m of elevation gain.

The race begins with a lap of the cricket field before transitioning to a one-kilometre tarmac section along Strawberry Lee Lane. Participants then face a steep climb onto the fell, crossing fields over Totley Moor to reach Blacka Moor Woods. The descent features technical paths and tracks, including the steep "Piper Gate." After crossing stepping stones, the course includes a final uphill section before returning to the road for a fast finish back at the pavilion. Surfaces include tarmac, moorland grass, and woodland paths with exposed tree roots.

Registration takes place at the Totley Pavilion. Facilities on-site include toilets, showers, and changing rooms. Water is provided, though participants must bring their own cups or bottles. The event has an entry limit of 250 runners, and the minimum age for entry is 18 years old. All participants must follow FRA kit requirements, which may be inspected on the day. Car parking is limited, and visitors are encouraged to use public transport or car share. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
