Blacka Moor Chase

Blacka Moor Chase is a mid-summer trail race organised by Totley AC that starts and finishes at the Totley AC pavilion on Lane Head Road, Totley, Sheffield S17 3AZ. The course is approximately 6.7 km long with about 270 m of climb and is run entirely on public rights of way within Blacka Moor and Totley Moor. There is an entry limit of 250.

The route begins with a lap of the field and follows about 1 km of tarmac along Strawberry Lee Lane before a short, sharp climb onto the moor. Runners cross fields to the top of Blacka Moor Woods then descend technical paths and tracks, including the steep Piper Gate section and a sequence of stepping stones, before returning via Strawberry Lee Lane to the cricket pitch. Paths through Blacka Moor wood contain exposed tree roots; the route is fixed and checkpoints are marked on the race map.

Facilities at the pavilion include toilets, showers and changing rooms; water is available but runners are asked to bring their own cup or bottle. Parking is very limited; organisers encourage car sharing and use of other travel options. The event is run under FRA rules and may include mandatory kit inspections. Required items follow the Race Organiser's instructions and, in poor weather, runners should have FRA Best Practice kit available (waterproof cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, emergency food). Entrants must remain on the designated route, display their race number as directed, and inform Race Control if retiring by returning to a checkpoint or the pavilion.
