The Blacka Moor Chase is a trail race in Sheffield. It covers a distance of approximately 6.7 km with an overall climb of about 270 m. It is classified as a Fell Runners Association (FRA) BS category race.
Route Details
The race starts and finishes at the Totley AC pavilion on a cricket pitch. The initial section includes a lap of the field and a stretch on Strawberry Lee Lane. The course then heads onto Totley Moor and Blacka Moor, featuring a descent on a steep, technical path called Piper Gate. The route returns via the lane to the finish. The entire course is on public rights of way (PRoW). The paths through Blacka Moor wood have exposed tree roots.
Facilities and Logistics
Facilities at the pavilion include toilets, showers, and changing rooms. Water is provided, but participants are asked to bring their own cup or bottle. Parking at the venue is very limited. Participants are encouraged to use other transport, car shares, walk, jog, cycle, or take a bus. The 97 bus stops a five-minute walk from the start.
Participation
The entry limit is 250 runners. Minimum age is 18. Entry costs £7, available via pre-entry or on the day if the race is not full. The race is held under FRA rules. A mandatory kit inspection may be performed; required kit is at the race organiser's discretion based on weather and may include full waterproof body cover. Numbers must be worn visibly on the chest.
Prizes
Prizes are awarded for the top three male and female finishers, the first Totley AC runner, and in several age categories: 18-23, Senior, V40, V50, V60, and V70. There are also spot prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
