Holme Moss Fell Race

Holme Moss Fell Race is an open fell race organised by Holmfirth Harriers on Sunday 26 July 2026. The event is based at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth (grid ref SE134067). The course is approximately 17.8 miles (28.5 km) with about 1,285 m (4,215 ft) of ascent. Entry is limited to 200 runners and the minimum age is 18. Pre-entry fees are £14 for FRA members and £16 for non-members; on-the-day entry is available at a higher fee.

Course, safety and prizes

The route includes sections of the Pennine Way and runs over exposed Pennine moorland with steep, rocky climbs, river crossings and some trackless sections. Key checkpoints include Holme Moss, Tooleyshaw Moor, Crowden, Bareholme Moss, Laddow Rocks and Black Hill, with the start about half a mile from registration and the finish at the registration venue. The race is a category AL event; navigation skills and prior fell-racing experience are required. Runners should be capable of completing the course in about 5 hours 30 minutes. Cut-offs apply at several checkpoints and marshals’ instructions must be followed.

Mandatory kit is checked and includes waterproof full-body cover with hood, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, emergency food and a cup or container for water (500 ml recommended). GPS navigation is prohibited under FRA rules. Holme Valley Mountain Rescue provides safety cover and a raffle supports their funds.
