Holme Moss Fell Race

Event Details

The Holme Moss Fell Race is a Category AL fell race organized by Holmfirth Harriers. It covers a distance of 28.5 km (17.8 miles) with an ascent of 1,285 m (4,215 ft).

The event takes place on the rugged Pennine moorland on the edge of the Peak District. The route includes terrain such as steep trackless moorland, rocky climbs, river crossings, and remote areas. It is flagged in sections, but the route may not be fully marked. The race headquarters and finish is at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club in Holmfirth. The start point is approximately half a mile from the registration venue.

Eligibility and Requirements

This race is described as suitable only for experienced fell runners and is not recommended as a first fell race. It has an entry limit of 200 participants. The minimum age for entry is 18.

All runners must carry mandatory kit, including full waterproof body cover with a hood, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, emergency food, and a cup or water supply. Kit checks are conducted. The use of GPS for navigation is prohibited.

There is a time limit for the course of 5 hours and 30 minutes, with several cut-off points during the race. The race is governed by the rules of the Fell Runners Association.

Registration and Prizes

Advance entry is available online. There is a fee discount for Fell Runners Association members. Entries are also available on the day on a first-come, first-served basis until the race limit is reached.

Prizes are awarded to the first 10 men, first 5 women, and various veteran and under-23 age categories. Team prizes are also awarded. All participants receive a race memento for the 2026 event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
