Holme Moss Fell Race

The Holme Moss Fell Race is an off-road fell running event held on 26 July 2026 with a course of 28.5 km (17.8 ml) and about 1,285 m ascent. Registration takes place at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth, HD9 2TU, located about one mile south of Holmfirth. The finish is at the registration location.

The route includes sections of the Pennine Way and large areas of true moorland, with steep climbs and descents. Checkpoints on the course include Holme Moss (SE096036), Tooleyshaw Moor (SE085030), Crowden (SK070996), Bareholme Moss (SE068009), Laddow Rocks (SE057016), Black Hill (SE078047) and a return to Holme Moss before the final approach to the finish (SE134067).

Entry is limited to 200 runners. Minimum age is 18 on the event date. Entries open 1 November 2025 and close 22 July 2026. The event follows Fell Runners Association safety requirements and mandatory kit will be checked for all runners. Competitors should be able to complete the course within 5 hours 30 minutes; there are checkpoint cut-offs where marshals’ instructions must be obeyed.

Holme Valley Mountain Rescue provides safety cover. Post-race food and drink are provided free to runners, and a raffle will be held in aid of the mountain rescue team. Camping is available nearby. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Trail runs nearby

A trail 5k around Clowbridge Reservoir run over two laps and open to ages 11 and over. It is one race in a three-race spring series in April, with an entry fee of £6.50 and proceeds donated to local causes.

Trail event on the Calderdale Way with 50 mile and 30 mile options through moorland, villages and mill towns. Vegan friendly aid stations, GPS tracking and mandatory kit are included.

A self guided six mile trail loop around Linacre Reservoirs in Derbyshire, starting and finishing at Wadshelf Village Hall. The runnable route features bluebell woods, waterside trails and one steep climb near the end.

Trail fundraiser from Newfield School through bluebell woodlands, offering 5k and 10k routes with age rules and junior prize categories. The event supports three PTAs, relies on volunteers, and includes on-site refreshments.
