Holme Moss Fell Race : event details

The Holme Moss Fell Race is an open fell race organised by Holmfirth Harriers with race headquarters at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth (HD9 2TU). The course distance is 28.5 km (17.8 miles) with an ascent of 1,285 m (4,215 ft). Entry is limited to 200 runners and the minimum age is 18. Advance entry fees are listed separately for FRA members and non-members; on-the-day entries are available up to the event limit.

Course, safety and requirements

The route crosses Pennine moorland and contains steep trackless sections, rocky climbs, river crossings and remote areas where navigation and local knowledge are important. The race is graded category AL and the organisers state that prior fell running experience and navigation competence are required. Runners should be capable of completing the course in 5 hours 30 minutes. The event is run under Fell Runners Association rules; the use of GPS for navigation is not permitted.

Mandatory kit includes waterproof full-body cover with taped seams and hood, a hat, gloves, a map and compass suitable for the route, a whistle, emergency food and a cup or personal water supply (recommended 500 ml).
