Holme Moss Fell Race

Holme Moss Fell Race is a long fell running event based at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth, HD9 2TU, about one mile south of Holmfirth. The advertised course distance is 28.5 km (17.8 ml) with approximately 1285 m of ascent. The route includes sections of the Pennine Way and extended areas of true moorland with steep climbs and descents.

Registration takes place at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club. The race start is at grid reference SE133059, about half a mile from registration; the finish is at the registration location (SE134067). Competitors are expected to navigate between a series of checkpoints on moorland and higher ground. Named checkpoints include Holme Moss, Tooleyshaw Moor, Crowden, Bareholme Moss, Laddow Rocks and Black Hill, with drinks stations listed at Holme Moss, Crowden and Laddow Rocks.

This event is category AL and requires experienced fell runners. Navigation skills and FRA safety requirements are mandatory. Mandatory kit will be checked. Runners should be capable of completing the course in 5 hours 30 minutes. There are cut offs at a number of checkpoints where marshals’ instructions must be obeyed. Runners must bring their own cup or container to obtain water at the drink stations.

Entry is restricted to those aged 18 or older, with a maximum of 200 places. Entries open 1 November 2025 and close 22 July 2026. Entry fees are listed as FRA member £14.00 and non member £16.00.
