The course length is 28.5 km (17.8 miles) with approximately 1,285 m (4,215 ft) of ascent. The race is limited to 200 entrants and the minimum age is 18. Pre-entry and entry on the day are available; entry fees differ for FRA members and non-members.

Course and rules

The route runs across Pennine moorland and uses sections of the Pennine Way. Checkpoints and drinks stations are located at Holme Moss, Tooleyshaw Moor, Crowden, Bareholme Moss, Laddow Rocks, Black Hill and other points; the route then returns to Holme Moss and the finish at the cricket club. Navigation skills are required - the race uses flags for some sections but is not fully waymarked. The event is organised under Fell Runners Association rules and the use of GPS for navigation is prohibited.

Kit, cut-offs and safety

All runners will be kit-checked and must carry mandatory items including waterproof full body cover with hood, hat, gloves, map and compass, whistle, emergency food and a cup or container for water. Marshals enforce cut-offs at named checkpoints and their instructions must be obeyed. Holme Valley Mountain Rescue provides safety cover for the event.

Prizes and facilities

Prizes are awarded to top finishers, veteran age categories and team positions. Free food and drink are provided for runners after the race. Camping is available nearby and a raffle is held in aid of mountain rescue funds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
