Trail Running calendar near Lake District National Park 2026-2027

On 3 January 2027 at Gibside National Trust Wild Deer Events holds 5 mile and 10 mile trail runs across over 600 acres of gardens, woodland and countryside. The event is Canicross friendly and includes chip timing and a finisher medal.

Trail races across the grounds of Harewood House offering 5km, 10km and half marathon distances with age minimums. Canicross welcome; live chip timing, finisher medal, merchandise and free parking.

A 10 km trail run in Ashington on 10 January 2027 through community woods and QEII Country Park. The event is canicross friendly and includes chip timing, marshals and a finisher medal.

A themed night trail in Rivington with reflective course markers, required head torches and rough, muddy terrain. Options include a 10k, a Half Marathon and a free 1k kids event for children of participants.

Flat out and back races along the Leeds to Liverpool Canal at Kirkstall. Distances range from 10K to ultramarathon, with feed stations, marshals and Trail Running Association licensing.

Two races start from Kirkstall Bridge Inn: a scenic ~16 km trail along canal and riverside paths, and a flat 10 km out and back on the canal towpath. Courses are fully marked and marshalled with basic facilities at race HQ.

Winter canal runs in Saltaire along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal with distances from 10K to Marathon on a mostly flat towpath. Fully marshalled course with drink stations, canal side loos and a bespoke finisher medal.

A 10 km race at Sowerby Bridge Pool that mixes muddy trail terrain with a tarmac return. A two person relay option is offered and entries are limited to 100 participants.

A trail event in Slaithwaite along the Huddersfield narrow gauge canal with options from 5k to marathon. Feed stations, marshals and a 6.5 hour cut off support participants across varied canal and tunnel terrain.

February 2027

A winter trail challenge from Barley, Lancashire offering waymarked 45 mile and 30 mile routes across South Pennines moorland with required winter kit and route maps provided.

Experience a unique 10 mile nighttime trail run through the fabled Simonside Hills of Northumberland. Navigate rocky trails and steep climbs under the stars in this atmospheric winter event.

Test your endurance at the Wadsworth Trog fell race in the South and West Pennines. This 31 km event features over 1100 meters of climbing and requires navigation skills for participants traversing the Hebden Bridge landscape.

Flat, waterside races along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal offering distances from 10K to ultra marathon, Trail Running Association licensed and supported with feed stations and a sweet-filled finish.

Road races in and around Cockermouth offering a half marathon and a 10km through the Lorton Valley with chip-timing, medals and event merchandise. The event supports Blood Bikes Cumbria.

Trail races from Grizedale Visitor Centre in the Lake District on varied, undulating forest tracks. Options include a 13-mile half and a 26-mile marathon with an eastern loop toward Windermere, compulsory kit and timed cut offs apply.

Two marked off-road courses at Whinlatter on 7 February 2027, offering a 10k and a 5K with significant ascent. Chip timed with GPX files available, individual starts, and two dogs permitted per runner.

A flat trail event on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal with multiple distances, marshals and drink stations. Canal side facilities are provided and finishers receive a bespoke medal and treats.

A 50 mile LDWA challenge around rural north Leeds with two loops visiting Temple Newsam, Meanwood Valley and Harewood Estate, run by the West Yorkshire group with different entry fees for members and non members.

Trail runs at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden on 28 February 2027 offer 5km, 10km and half marathon distances with live chip timing. Canicross is allowed and finishers receive a medal, merchandise, snack and drink.

March 2027

A fully tracked 30 mile trail event around Morland in Cumbria on 6 March 2027, with about 3000 ft of ascent, four checkpoints and a 12 hour cut off. Walkers, relay teams and self-sufficient support runners are welcome.
