Roundhay 50

The Roundhay 50 is a 50 mile figure of eight route that starts and finishes at St Andrews Roundhay United Reformed Church in Roundhay. The event is organised as two distinct loops; entrants may choose to complete both loops or only one. The minimum age for entry is 18 and entries are limited to 220 places. Entry fees differ for members and non members.

The first loop passes through Roundhay Park, follows the Wyke Beck to Temple Newsam and joins the Leeds Country Way, running via Garforth, Barwick in Elmet, Thorner and Bardsey before returning via Wike and Shadwell. The second loop runs through Gledhow Valley Woods onto the Meanwood Valley Trail, includes a checkpoint at Alwoodley, goes past Eccup Reservoir into Harewood Estate with a checkpoint at the village hall, and then returns to Roundhay by the same route.

Most of the route is off road and close to civilisation, but the event takes place in February so participants should expect winter conditions. Checkpoint opening and closing times are specified and arriving outside those times may lead to waiting or retirement from the event. A full route description and a .gpx file will be provided approximately two weeks before the event.

Minimum kit required includes full waterproofs, hat, gloves, fleece top, long trousers, map with route on, route description, compass, whistle, mug, emergency food and torch. Checkpoints will provide hot and cold drinks and food; vegetarian options are catered for but other special diets are not guaranteed.
