The Montane Grizedale Forest Trail takes place on Sunday 1 February 2026 at Grizedale Visitor Centre, Grizedale, Ambleside LA22 0QJ. Distances on offer are:

  • 13.1 Miles

Entry fees are listed as £49 for the marathon and £39 for the half marathon, plus a per-participant fee of 6%. Entries close when the event is full or on the Friday before the race at 12:00 noon. The event is listed as sold out. Results Base is responsible for registration; timing is provided by Epic Events.

Course and logistics

The Half Marathon follows the first 13 miles of the Marathon route on wide, well maintained forest tracks. The course is described as undulating with varied terrain and some road sections. Marathon runners complete an additional eastern loop with sections near the shores of Windermere. The Half finishes at Grizedale Visitor Centre; marathon runners continue beyond that point.

Runners must meet a minimum age of 16 on race day and carry items on a compulsory kit list. Dogs are not permitted to take part in the race but may be present as supporters in the start/finish area. Included with entry are a custom finisher medal, drinks on course and at the finish, electronic timing, and official event photographs available to download in high resolution. Tackle a scenic but stiff 4.7 km fell race at Elterwater Common in the Lake District as part of the Helm Hill Winter League, featuring a 396 m climb and great views. Entry on the day, juniors welcome, bring winter kit.

Run classic Lake District fell country at the Blake Fell Race on 31 January 2026, a testing 9.5 km course with 429 m of climb around The Leaps. Entries are limited to 120 so book early for this spirited winter challenge.
