Grizedale Forest Trail

Grizedale, United Kingdom • 1 Feb 2026

Montane Grizedale Trail 13 & 26

The event is based at Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre near Hawkshead in the Lake District. It offers two trail distances that use wide, well maintained forest tracks for much of the route. The terrain is undulating and varied, with some road sections, and provides views across Coniston and towards Windermere on the marathon's eastern loop.

The half marathon follows the first 13 miles of the marathon route and finishes at Grizedale Visitor Centre. Marathon runners continue beyond the visitor centre to complete an eastern loop that extends toward and along the shores of Windermere. Due to the time of year and available daylight, organisers operate cut off times for the marathon and require runners to pass designated feed stations within set limits; there is also a final course cut off.

Runners must meet a minimum age of 16 on race day and carry items listed on the compulsory kit list. Entries close when the event is full or on the Friday prior to race day at midday. Event entry includes a bespoke finisher’s medal, drinks at the finish and on the course, feedstations on the marathon route, electronic timing, and official event photographs available to download.
