Montane Grizedale Forest Trail 13 & 26

The event is based at Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre near Hawkshead in the Lake District. It offers two trail distances on forest tracks and some road sections. The course is described as undulating and provides views of Coniston and the surrounding area.

Distances:

  • 13 miles Half marathon, the first 13 miles of the marathon route; finishes at Grizedale Visitor Centre.
  • 26 miles Full marathon, includes an additional eastern loop that goes towards Windermere.

Terrain is varied with good forest tracks, some muddy sections and short road stretches. Runners for the full marathon pass the half marathon finish and continue on the extra loop. There are feedstations on the marathon route and water at the half marathon finish. Electronic timing is used and a custom finisher’s medal is provided.

Entries have set fees and conditions: half marathon £39 and marathon £49, entrants must be 16 years or over on race day, and runners must carry items from the compulsory kit list. Entries close when the event is full or on the Friday before the race at 12 noon. There are cut off times because of limited daylight; full marathon runners must reach Food Stop 2 (13 miles) within 3.5 hours and Food Stop 3 (20.5 miles) within a later time, and the final course cut off is 7 hours 30 minutes from the start.

Dogs are not allowed to take part but may attend as spectators at the start and finish if well behaved. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
