20 Barriers Race 2026

The 20 Barriers Race is a 5 mile country running event held near Carnforth, starting and finishing at Carnforth High School on Tuesday 7 July 2026. The course is an anticlockwise loop to the south of Carnforth that uses field paths, trails and the canal towpath and includes a number of stiles and other field boundaries; the name refers to these crossings and the route notes that none of them present unusual hazards. Trail or studded shoes are advised.

The event is held under FRA rules and is open to competitors aged 16 or over on the day. Entry is on the night only at a charge of £10; there is no pre-entry. All profits are donated to a local youth charity. Since 2022 the route has returned to the traditional finish through the old Lundsfield quarry area and follows the yellow marker posts to Kellet Road canal bridge before crossing the footbridge down to the towpath.

Parking is requested in the main Carnforth High School car park on the east side of the school rather than the restricted town-side area next to the swimming pool. Goody bags are provided for the first three men and the first three women and additional spot prizes are awarded at the finish. Water and juice are available at the finish but participants are asked to bring a reusable drinking cup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
