20 Barriers Race

The event is a countryside road-and-trail race based at Carnforth High School, Kellet Road, Carnforth LA5 9LS. The course covers a 5 mile loop using field paths, trails and a canal towpath to the south of Carnforth.

The route crosses multiple stiles and field boundaries, which gives the race its name; the organiser states that none of these barriers should present unusual hazards. The course since 2022 includes the traditional return route through the old Lundsfield quarry area, follows yellow marker posts to Kellet Road canal bridge and crosses a pale green footbridge down to the towpath. Trail or studded shoes are advised.

The race is held under FRA rules and is open to competitors aged 16 or over on the day of the event. Entry is on the night only at a fee of £10 with no pre-entry; all profits support a local youth charity.

Changes to the start and finish locations were made because of new perimeter fencing at the school and these changes are now permanent; maps and the pre-race briefing provide course and logistics details. Prizes include goody bags for the first three men and first three women and other spot prizes. Water and juice are provided at the finish with a request that participants bring a reusable drinking cup to reduce plastic use. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
