Swirral Grind 850

The Swirral Grind 850 is an uphill only race in the style of a Vertical K, held on 17 July 2026 as part of the Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra weekend. The event is based at King George Playing Field in Patterdale and starts from the events field there.

The course covers 6 km of continuous ascent with 850 m of climb. The route follows steep and stepped paths to the Hole in the Wall, runs the flats of the Red Tarn Basin, then makes a second ascent to the ridge-line of Swirral Edge. The route includes easy scrambling to reach the summit and the trig point at about 950 m. The climb reaches Helvellyn, the third highest mountain in the Lake District.

Entry details note a minimum age of 16 years and an entry fee of £30. Entries opened on 4 October 2025 and close on 15 July 2026; entries recorded so far show 11 participants.

A 10 km urban trail through central Carlisle on 06 May 2026 that passes Carlisle Cathedral, Millennium Bridge and Carlisle Castle. Entry is limited to 300 runners aged 15 and over with overall and age group prizes.

Tackle a classic Lake District fell race from Dockray to Hartside on Wed 6 May 2026, covering 10 km with a stiff 800 m of climb. Entry on the day is £5 with parking at the quarry car park. Expect a tough scenic course and friendly vibes.

Take on the Cautley Horseshoe fell race near Sedbergh on 6 May 2026, a short but brutal 7.5 km with 805 m of ascent and spectacular upland views. Entry on the day is £5 and the Cross Keys Inn will be open for post race food and drink.

A fully way marked 47 mile trail around Lake Windermere, open to runners and walkers with 24 hours to complete. The route has GPS support, five aid stations, a halfway bag drop, a finishers meal and a locally sourced medal.
