Swirral Grind 850

The Swirral Grind is an uphill only race based in Patterdale on 17 July 2026. The event starts from the King George Playing Field and is presented as a Vertical K style ascent. The course covers 6 km with 850 m of ascent and finishes near the summit trig point at approximately 950 m. The event is part of the Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra weekend. Minimum age to enter is 16 and the published entry fee is £30. Entries opened on 4 October 2025 and close on 15 July 2026.

The route follows steep and stepped paths from the field, reaches the Hole in the Wall, then runs the flats of the Red Tarn Basin before a second ascent to the Swirral Edge ridge. The final section includes easy scrambling to reach the ridge and trig point. The race features a fully marked course, a manned checkpoint, a professional Safety Officer and supporting safety team delivered by Mountain Run, and a recycled paper mache wild flower seed bomb medal for finishers.
