Swirral Grind 850 : event summary

The Swirral Grind 850 is an uphill only mountain race held on 17 July 2026. The course starts at the King George Playing Field in Patterdale and forms part of the Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra weekend. The route covers 6 km with 850 m of ascent.

The route follows steep and stepped paths to the feature known as the Hole in the Wall, then runs across the flats of the Red Tarn Basin before a second ascent to the Swirral Edge ridge. The final section includes easy scrambling to reach the summit trig point at about 950 m. The event description identifies the summit as being on Helvellyn.

The event is organised with a fully marked course and a manned checkpoint. A professional Safety Officer and a supporting safety team are provided by Mountain Run.
