The Swirral Grind 850 is an uphill-only mountain race on 17 July 2026, based in Patterdale. The route covers 6 km with 850 m of ascent. The event starts from King George Playing Field, Patterdale. Course and race services

The course is a continuous ascent that follows steep and stepped paths to the feature known as the "Hole in the Wall", crosses the flats of Red Tarn Basin, then climbs to the ridge-line of Swirral Edge. The final section includes easy scrambling to the summit trig point at 950 m. Organisers provide a fully marked course and manned checkpoints. A professional safety officer and supporting safety team are supplied by Mountain Run. Finishers receive a recycled paper mache wild flower seed bomb medal.
