Swirral Grind 850

The Swirral Grind 850 is an uphill only race run in the style of a Vertical K. The course covers 6 km with 850 m ascent and starts from the King George Playing Field in Patterdale. The event is scheduled for 17 July 2026 and has a minimum age of 16.

The route uses steep and stepped paths that climb toward the feature known as the Hole in the Wall, then crosses the flats of the Red Tarn Basin before a second ascent up to the ridge-line of Swirral Edge. The final section includes easy scrambling to reach the summit trig point at about 950 m. The course is described as a sustained ascent that tests aerobic and leg strength.

Entry includes a fully marked course and manned checkpoints. Participants receive a recycled paper mache wild flower seed bomb medal. A professional Safety Officer and supporting safety team are provided by Mountain Run, and the event is delivered by an experienced organising team. The race is presented as part of the Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra weekend and takes place within the Lake District World Heritage area.

Practical details such as the entry fee are published for the event. Materials and safety provision are part of the entry package. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
