Swirral Grind 850

The Swirral Grind 850 is an uphill-only running event. The course is 6 km long with an ascent of 850 m, designed in the style of a Vertical Kilometer race.

The race starts at the King George Playing Field in Patterdale. The route follows steep and stepped paths up to the 'Hole in the Wall' feature. Runners then cross the flats of the Red Tarn basin before making a final ascent to the ridge-line of Swirral Edge. The finish is at the summit trig point on Helvellyn, which has an altitude of 950 metres.

The event is scheduled for 17 July 2026, with entries opening on 04 October 2025.
