Lake District Sky Trails - Swirral Grind 850
Patterdale, United Kingdom • 18 Jul 2025
The Swirral Grind 850 is a challenging uphill-only race held in Patterdale, part of the Lake District Sky Trails series. Covering 6km with an 850m ascent, the course starts at King George Playing Field and features steep, stepped paths leading to the iconic 'Hole in the Wall.' Runners then traverse the flats of Red Tarn Basin before a final climb up Swirral Edge, including easy scrambling to reach the summit trig point at 950m. This Vertical K-style race tests endurance and willpower, offering a lung-bursting ascent of Helvellyn, the third highest peak in the Lake District, within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event includes marked routes, checkpoints, safety support, and a unique wildflower seed bomb medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
