The Swirral Grind 850 is a challenging uphill-only race held in the Lake District, starting from King George Playing Field in Patterdale. Covering 6km with an 850m ascent, this Vertical K-style event tests runners with steep, stepped paths leading to the iconic 'Hole in the Wall' and the flats of Red Tarn Basin. The final climb ascends Swirral Edge, including easy scrambling to reach the summit trig point at 950m. Part of the Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra weekend, the race offers a fully marked course, manned checkpoints, and a unique recycled paper mache wildflower seed bomb medal. Participants experience a lung-bursting ascent on Helvellyn, the third highest mountain in the Lakes, within a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
