Swirral Grind 850
The Swirral Grind is an uphill only race held in Patterdale and run in the style of a Vertical K. The route covers about 6 km of continuous ascent with approximately 850 m of climb, starting at the King George Playing Field.
The course follows steep and stepped paths to the landmark known as the "Hole in the Wall", then crosses the flats of the Red Tarn Basin before a second ascent to the ridge line of Swirral Edge. The final section involves easy scrambling to reach the summit trig point at about 950 m.
Included in the entry are a fully marked course, manned checkpoints, a recycled paper mache wild flower seed bomb medal, and a safety officer with a supporting safety team provided by Mountain Run. The event is delivered by an experienced organising team and takes place within the Lake District UNESCO World Heritage Site.
