Event

The Blisco Dash takes place on 15 July 2026. It is an informal, low-key Wednesday evening summer fell race in the Lake District, listed as category AS. The course distance is 8 km / 5 miles with roughly 600 m (about 2,000 ft) of ascent. Entry is on the day only with a £2 fee. Minimum age is 16. Teams are allowed. Junior races are not held for this event. The race has a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the Fell Runners Association.

Course and logistics

The route starts at the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel in Great Langdale, Ambleside, with parking at the National Trust car park ODG. The route begins on road, rises toward Blea Tarn, then follows steep switchbacks and a rough path up the side of Redacre Gill. The top section requires some scrambling and route choice to reach an exposed, rocky summit. The descent follows a greasy, pitched path before emerging onto tarmac for an extended sprint to the finish. Navigational skills and local knowledge can be an advantage. Competitors may be asked to carry full FRA kit depending on weather. Use of GPS for navigation is not allowed. A Selwyn Wright prizegiving awards very small bottles of French beer; slower finishers typically receive more. Course records are 00:36:01 (male, 1987) and 00:44:34 (female, 2018).
