The race starts on the sports field adjacent to the community centre, proceeds through the village main street, turns onto the Hawes road, then leaves the road after about 400 metres onto the public footpath up to the summit (Grid Ref. 742745) and returns by the same route. The field is re-entered from the Back Gate car park.

Entries open and close on specified dates and are limited to a maximum of 250 competitors. Entry fees are non refundable; standard fees apply with a reduced rate for FRA members and on the day entries available only if the race limit has not been reached. The event forms part of the Yorkshire Dales Classics series, where entering all four races attracts a discounted combined fee. Competitors may recce the course beforehand because it runs along public footpaths. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
