Ingleborough Mountain Race
The Ingleborough Mountain Race is a classic category AM fell race held in Ingleton. Established in 1939, the event is a central feature of the annual Ingleton Gala day. The course covers a total distance of 11 km (6.8 miles) and involves 600 m (1,968 feet) of total climbing.
Participants begin the race at the sports field adjacent to the Ingleton Community Centre. The route proceeds through the village main street before turning onto the Hawes road. After a short stretch on the road, the path transitions to a public footpath leading to the summit of Ingleborough. Runners reach the peak and return to the finish line using the same route, eventually re-entering the sports field via the Back Gate car park.
Registration takes place at the Ingleton Community Centre, where participants collect their race numbers. The event is open to individuals aged 18 and older. While pre-entry is available online, on-the-day registration is permitted if the total race limit of 250 participants has not been reached. The race is part of the Yorkshire Dales Classics series, which includes other events in Settle and Whernside.
Because the course utilizes public footpaths, runners are permitted to scout the route prior to the event to familiarize themselves with the terrain and potential lines of travel. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
