Ingleborough Mountain Race

The Ingleborough Mountain Race is a classic category AM fell race based in the village of Ingleton. Organized by Settle Harriers, the event has a history dating back to 1939 and is held as a central feature of the annual Ingleton Gala day. The course covers a distance of 11 km (6.8 miles) and includes 600 m (1,968 feet) of total climbing.

The race follows a specific out-and-back route. Starting at the sports field next to the Ingleton Community Centre, participants run through the main street of the village before turning onto Hawes road. After a short stretch on the road, the route transitions onto a public footpath that leads directly to the summit of Ingleborough. After reaching the summit, runners return to the village using the same path. The final section of the race re-enters the gala field via the Back Gate car park.

Registration takes place inside the Ingleton Community Centre, where participants can collect their race numbers. The event is open to runners aged 18 or older. While online pre-entry is available, entry on the day is also permitted if the total race limit of 250 participants has not been reached. The race is part of the Yorkshire Dales Classics series, which also include:

  • Pen-y-Ghent Fell Race
  • Settle Hills Fell Race
  • Whernside Fell Race

As the course utilizes public footpaths, runners are permitted to scout the route prior to the official event date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
