Patterdale Parish Boundary - Beat The Bounds

Beat The Bounds in Patterdale is a community event following the parish boundary in the Ullswater Valley. It offers walking, jogging or running over mapped routes that include many Lake District summits and boundary points. The event is held as a fundraiser for Patterdale School and St Patrick's Church and continues a long local tradition.

Event route options include:

  • 28 miles with about 10,200 ft ascent (Full Boundary)
  • 16 miles with about 6,500 ft ascent (1st half)
  • 12 miles with about 3,700 ft ascent (2nd half)
  • 6 miles family mini-beat, downhill via Hartsop Hall

The full event route passes numerous named fells and landmarks, and the organiser provides GPX routes and a detailed route description. Bespoke waterproof maps are available to purchase in advance. Participants receive a tracker for safety and route verification, and there is a staffed checkpoint at Kirkstone Pass offering food and drinks. Cut-off points are applied at key locations to ensure participants return safely to the valley.

Entries include a welcome, a tracker fitted to your pack, a bespoke race number, checkpoint provisions and finishers' soup and cake. There is a no-refund policy; entry fees are treated as donations. Local residents qualify for free entry via a parish discount code circulated within the parish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
