Beat The Bounds, Patterdale : event description

Beat The Bounds is a route-based fell event in the Patterdale parish, Ullswater Valley, following the parish boundary as much as possible. Four distances are offered:

  • Full Boundary: 28 miles, 10,200 ft ascent
  • 1st Half Boundary: 16 miles, 6,500 ft ascent
  • 2nd Half Boundary: 12 miles, 3,500 ft ascent
  • Patterdale 10km Challenge (Minibeat): about 6 miles downhill via Hartsop Hall

The full parish boundary route passes over many named features including Raise, Helvellyn, Nethermost Pike, Dollywaggon Pike, Grisedale Tarn, Fairfield, Red Screes, Kirkstone Pass, High Street, Angle Tarn and Place Fell. The route is marked, bespoke waterproof maps and GPX files will be available, and a tracker is issued to each participant for location monitoring and route point checks. A staffed checkpoint at Kirkstone Pass provides snacks, drinks and VOOM Nutrition products; volunteers and mountain rescue presence are noted at higher checkpoints.

Age and entry arrangements vary by distance; minimum ages apply for some options and family rules apply to the Minibeat. Cut off times are applied at Kirkstone Pass and Boredale Hause for safety. Entry fees cover a tracker, bespoke race number, checkpoint provisions and finishers soup and cake. There is no refund policy and entry fees are treated as donations split between Patterdale C of E Primary School and St Patrick's Church.
