Race Distances and Course

The senior race is a fell run covering approximately 1.4 miles (2.3 km) with an ascent of about 300 meters (980 feet). The course starts in the Gala Field. It goes round the back of the Stickle Barn before a steep climb alongside Dungeon Ghyll on a rough fell path to a turnaround point at Mark Gate. The top section involves a rough, technical climb and descent. The route returns the same way, finishing back in the Gala Field.

Participant Information

The senior race has an age limit for competitors in the Under 19's category (17 on the day) and over. All races are held under Fell Running Association (FRA) rules. The course involves steep, loose terrain on rough Lakeland fell and is fully flagged and partially marshaled.

All competitors must bring and be prepared to carry suitable fell running clothing, including waterproof full body cover, a hat, and gloves. These requirements may be relaxed at the sole discretion of the race organizer. The courses may also be varied on the day for reasons including adverse weather conditions.

Prizes

Prizes, courtesy of sponsorship by The Climbers Shop, will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place men and women. The first-place man and woman will each receive a winner's trophy, which must be returned for the following year's event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
