Darren Holloway Memorial Race (Buttermere Horseshoe)

Loweswater, United Kingdom • 28 Jun 2025

The Darren Holloway Memorial Race, known as the Buttermere Horseshoe, is a challenging fell running event held in the Lake District, starting and finishing at Loweswater Village Hall. It features two courses: a long 35.5 km route with 2515 m ascent and a shorter 20.8 km course with 1518 m ascent, both demanding strong navigation skills as the route is flagged only to the fells and requires route choice between checkpoints. The race honors Pennine fell runner Darren Holloway and offers a tough but rewarding experience over the quiet Buttermere fells. Full FRA kit is mandatory, and the long course is part of the Lakeland Classics Trophy series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
