Langstrath Fell Race
Langstrath Fell Race is a fell race centred on The Langstrath Country Inn in Stonethwaite near Keswick, grid reference GR 253136. The course is 7.5 km long with 430 m of climb and is classified AS NS, meaning it has under 20% road, at least 50 m climb per kilometre on average, is under 10 km, and requires some navigational skill.
Entries are on the day only with an entry fee of £8.00. Competitors must complete an entry form and confirm they have read it.
Kit requirements are at the race organiser's discretion for this short A race. Runners are asked to bring a full set of FRA kit: waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and attached hood, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. The organiser may carry out kit checks and may relax requirements if the weather is judged to be good, but conditions can change quickly.
The race starts outside the Langstrath Country Inn. Much of the route is a free choice; the green route on the course map is the easiest to follow. After Dock Tarn a flagged section must be followed because the area is an SSSI. The route includes village streets, rough tracks, stiles, a steep stepped climb to open fell, marshalled points at Dock Tarn and Watendlath, a 1.5 km section on a broad path toward Rosthwaite, and a return to the village finish. Prize money and age-category awards are listed, with team prizes of chocolates for clubs where three runners count. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
